You would need a nVidia card with composite or s-video out to drive an 'old' TV like that - picture quality will suffer of course but it will work. You can use a USB-UIRT or an MCE Transceiver to send IR  to control the TV...there is almost certainly a template for most Sony TV's.

Why not play your DVDs using the core (after installing the DVDCSS software), sell your DVD player on eBay, and buy yourself a few pints with the money.

Well as Purps said above...why would you do that? You can play the DVD in the optical drive of your Core directly. Now if you had an external BluRay player.... you could control that using RS232 (if the player had an RS232 control port) or simply with another IR blaster tail from your USB-UIRT.

If you mean an 'external' DVD player controlled by your Hybrid then you can control that using IR blasters (you just need to run a cable from the Hybrids IR Tranceiver to the IR window on the DVD Player.

An Alternative would be to build/buy an MD that is compact & has an internal optical drive...then use that to drive the TV screens display and also then to play DVD discs...another alternative would be to buy a smaller more compact case for your Hybrid so that it could be located under/next to your main TV.
