Hi,
very good work Thom.
I with the Italian community (www.linuxmce-it.com), we are working on a black skin ..
here is our idea:
http://digilander.libero.it/rages2/immagini/PNG_ITA/test/testnero.png
I'm changing the skin slate as you have recommended in previous posts.
We must be able to put the text in white, however, and to change the color of the status LED for the lights on-off.

This is SOOO Italian. And I do not mean deprecatingly. I remember the time when I was in charge of the Italian subsidiaries. All offices where styled in that design :)
My only suggestion at the moment would be, to maybe try to get the icons and text stand out more from the button background image. atm the reflection bleed into the icons, distracting the user.

Very nice! I like the integration of the Italian flag colours into the LinuxMCE button ;-)
I think the icons could be a little larger but you are doing some very nice work :-)
All the best
Andrew
we are waiting for the Thom tips and tricks to improve the skin =)
Please, for the love of god, turn down the specular reflection on the button, it's distracting and blinding.
Pay attention to how the weak specular reflection is done on Aqua on Mac OS X.
-Thom
/me thinks, Thom has never been to Italy :) Those intense reflections ARE Italian ;D
:P
ahahahah
I initially thought it so the buttons ... :-\ (http://digilander.libero.it/rages2/immagini/game_riflesso.png) ...
Thom thinks that way is better? ;D
AHAHAHAH
still too much. Again, pay closer attention to the mode select buttons in finder on mac os x.
-Thom
To some extent its a personal thing. I like the originals.... but then again I understand the UI/visibility/distraction thing too... then I am slightly colour blind so perhaps that plays a part too!
Either way there is nothing stopping us having two variations (or more!) to satisfy all camps.... to paraphrase someone - he who does the work makes the rules :)
Italian - Gloss
Italian - Matt
;)
I do not know if I understood exactly what you mean ... maybe so but it is a bit more sober, but always effective.

Emanuele
I like this one very much!
bring down the opacity of the reflected icon. a lot.
-Thom
Last one looks good, but I agree with Thom. The skin will be quite distracting with all that reflection effect all over the place. Less is definitely more when it comes to putting in effects like this.
I guess it's all a difference of taste. My first thought was to have the icons as the top layer but I presume the idea is to have them "inside" the button. Great work nonetheless!
I have developed a different style, more simple ... What do you think of this?

Emanuele
Nice keep going! Would be nice to get this (UI1 and 2!) in before Beta!
I like this a lot :)
Here's 2 more screenshots with some questions:

As you see in the second, int the central buttons we can't see anything because the Text is Black.
Here's the thing, i changed the style in Iverse, but it change only some text.
Then i tried to create a new style, but i didn't figure how to edit it.
Some hints??
Anyone who can help with the style issues??
What have you attempted thus far? have you made entries in the StyleVariation table?
-Thom
I didn't made any manual change to the DB, i only used HADesigner and select New Style but it give me a lot of errors.
Which are the steps to create a New Style?
you need to use a tool like MySQL Query Browser, to add new entries into the StyleVariation table.
StyleVariation has FK_Style references, which refer to the styles defined in the FK_Style table.
You need to also get the PK_Skin # for your skin from the Skin table.
and if you look in stylevariation, you'll see entries in there for the different styles, and FK_Skin entries for each of these styles you wish to override. The only entries that need explanation, are the different color columns, to get these values, get the web color for what you're wanting to use, and use a calculator to convert it to decimal. You then get an integer you can put into those fields.
0 would be black, and since the integer is signed, and 16777215 or -1 would be white (because negative numbers go backwards).
-Thom
OK, so if i understood, i don't need HADesigner, i have to do manually in the DB.
Tnx.

Or you could utilize QuickDesigner for this, as QuickDesigner has a nice little UI for the style references, incl. copying of existing styles.
Here another ones.We decided to use the slate backgrounds, but we probably going to a little bit darker one, and we changed all the blue gradients popups into a darkgray solution.
We still have to replace all the buttons.
Thanks for the tips, i used QuickDesigner. But i still have 2 problem.
- The pics for the TV or the Security State(armed, at home, away etc.) are in the Skin Folder?
- I cannot change the Text(and so the colour) of The central buttons. Seems like is not a StyleVariation Things.
yes, it is. I promise, take the respective arrays apart, and you'll see how the styles are defined.
-Thom
This is looking really good guys, keep it up. Would you be interested in some additional help with this?
A few quick suggestions...the lighting icon would probably flow into everything a little better if it was flipped around the other direction so it is tilted the same as the thermometer and a little less on the rounded edges of the buttons would probably look a little smoother too. I'd like to see more of a button console look as opposed to each individual button...would just make the screen appear less busy.
If you would post your images I'd like to have a play with some ideas.
Thanks los93sol,for first i'd like to concentrate on the backgrounds and the remaining "untrasformed" buttons, and when we have a general picture, let's say an alpha =), we could go down on the particular again, we surely keep in mind your advices, but sorry. i don't understand this one:
". I'd like to see more of a button console look as opposed to each individual button...would just make the screen appear less busy."
Now my first problem is understand how to change the style to the array too.
Thanks for the interest, i'll keep u updated =)
Hi,
Yes, our primary problem is put buttons written in white, as says Massaubuntu, we are working with the first background, but we plan to release a first version alpha Italian and then an international alpha.
In that regard I was wondering if anyone has the files .svg of the background, ever if they exist.
Emanuele
I can help with the text color...please join IRC and contact me there
Some updates, we are very close to an alpha:
A question, i have made changes with HADesigner, we have to do a sqlCVS update for anyone who want to use this skin?

yes. And the diffs need to be committed using credentials. Anonymous won't work.
massabuntu - are you doing a UI2 version as well?
nope, we haven't think about it because the UI2 seems pretty elegant.
Are u interested?
I'd love to work with you guys on this stuff...I am just not good with textures at all, but can get around in HADesigner pretty well. It looks like you've pretty much got this one there. If you'd like to continue on expanding this one please let me know.
Hi,
I think that any constructive contribution is accepted, this is the philosophy of open source right?
Of course you should not change the goal and the idea of basic graphics we have set myself and Martin.
In this case it would be better to start a new project beyond that.
Emanuele
Other screenshots,
remains to change the text color of the button near media that tells wich media you are playing. I cannot find it in HAdesigner.

I definitely think that a variation for UI2 (masking) would be nice.... according to fearingsept UI2 versions are a lot easier than you might imagine once you have done a UI1 skin...
QuoteI definitely think that a variation for UI2 (masking) would be nice.... according to fearingsept UI2 versions are a lot easier than you might imagine once you have done a UI1 skin...
They are, especially if you are just replacing the current skin graphics with something that is similar. I completed the UI 2 version in less then 4 hours where I have countless hours in doing all the UI 1 screens.. There are so many.... UI 2 is mainly just buttons and bars. Makes it quick.
This skin looks pretty neat by the way.
Ok thanks for encourage ;)
The v0.1 is Ready right now! It's not perfect for sure but, it's pretty usable.
We'd like to improve this for now, maybe creating a Pearl White Variations and working more on HADesigner. We'd like to create serious and elegant skins, cause in our judgment, it's missing in UI1.
According to Thom i have to do an sqlCSV before make the diff, then remain only to upload the skin somewhere.
Is this skin available yet?
Hi,
not officially so, but if you want to test you must follow these simple steps:
- download the zip file from http://www.linuxmce-it.com/linuxmce/UITA-v0.1.zip (http://www.linuxmce-it.com/linuxmce/UITA-v0.1.zip)
- unpack the zip files
- copy the directory "UIta" to /usr/pluto/orbiter/skin/
- now open web admin and select the UI1 "UIta"
- full regen
Emanuele
I tried this on my webDT 366 Orbiter. Couple of minor notes once I extracted the zip I had to rename the folder UITA - v0.1 to UIta and cp it over to /usr/pluto/orbiter/skins/UIta rather than /usr/pluto/orbiter/skin. Did a full regen and the skin came up. Nice work btw. I'm not sure if this is the case just for the webpad since those are the only types of remotes I use, but none of the "lighting" buttons had any pics or labels.
I must be an idiot! I can't work this out... I created the UIta directory under skins and copied the contents of the zip file into it, the structure is the same, there are two root folders Basic and UIta and the contents are the same as the unzipped file contents. But in the web admin, when I go to the properties of the Orbiter (also a web dt366) the only entries in the drop down are:
B&O
Basic
Marbella
Mobile Phone Basic
Mobile Phone MO
Mobile Phone Monster
NuForce
Small UI Monster
Small UI
Even after a regen, there is no UIta... same for all my other orbiters....
I'm using 0710 if that makes any difference...
Colin sorry for this stupid question: Have you done a sqlCVS update?

No not stupid question (I'm stupid!) didn't realise I had to.... will I break my system by doing that given that I am on 0710?
you have to ask to more experts, anyway i'm pretty sure this skin is not ok with 7.10

Yeah the buttons are all black, wasn't sure if you were aware since I know it's still in 'testing' :)
We have to notify this to Thom since is him who tweaked the UIta in the sqlCVS.
let me take a look at Ulta as it is, and i'll add back in the appropriate overrides.
I'm sorry that I had to take them out, but it was incorrectly specified, and was causing OrbiterGen to bomb out on all the other skins.
-Thom
Tnx thom for your work.
