Title: Possible to run Core/MD on Asus EEE?

I'm interested in LinuxMCE but would need to site the Core in our lounge as a hybrid MD. Combined with a desire not to consume more power than is necessary I don't see this working on any form of fat fan-cooled server.

Does anyone have experience running a core/md hybrid on an Asus EEE or similar?

Can anyone recommend an alternative solution which would be quiet and unobtrusive in the lounge? Convergent Technologies looks good, but its a bit steep at £700-odd pounds.

(Update) The Acer AspireRevo 3600 looks a bit beefier - up to 4Gb RAM. Same question - anyone got this working as hybrid core/MD?

Hi

I run two EEEbox's as MD, They are ok fro 720p movies but nothing more..
As a core I am not sure.. I don;t think it has the power to run as a core but you can try..

Hi,

Sure you can run the Eee Box as a Core. We have some sometimes use Eee Box's for testing installs and also for use as easily transportable 'demo' systems. There are some obvious limitations like only being able to use USB TV tuners, no possible internal expansion and only a single NIC...and some advantages.... very low energy usage, almost silent in operation....but if you keep these in mind they are viable for a small system.

I had a similar intention to use our Acer Aspire Ones as Media Directors.

The problem I am experiencing so far is with their setup. So far the mousepad doesn't work so I can't select screen resolutions in initial setup.

Has anyone else made progress?

Setting up my Dell D400 worked like a charm.

BTW: am I right to assume I don't need the HDD variety of AAO and that a 512Mb/8Gb would work just fine??
