Title: Stream Video over the web
Post by: TheBrain on July 16, 2009, 08:12:02 PM
setup LinuxMCE to stream media over the web.  have an option to have a user sign in.  I think it would be awesome to be able to this while sitting in a hotel room.  Until this is built in, can some one direct me on were to look to get started with this on my own.  Im a newb to linux so a tutorial would be awesome.

Thanks Brian

There is a program called "Orb" that can do this, however the server side pc must be a windows or mac currently. The client side just runs on an internet browser so that part can be whatever. It works great, i just wish the linux version was done.

The Linux version of Orb is "coming" but no date as yet. The software is free but not OSS, which is a shame. It doesn't prevent it from being added as a DCE device, but would mean it needs to use the wrapper approach and that then depends on being able to control the server-side... dunno if there are any other interfaces/command line options other than their protocol.

Get a SlingBox that works fine...once you have the SlingBox you could develop a device template for it so that it was PnP...
