Title: 810 install videos
Post by: krys on July 02, 2009, 06:17:05 PM
Hey guys,
I had to reinstall 810 yesterday and I took the liberty of shooting a video of it just in case there are still people out there afraid of doing the install. It is really simple and probably doesnt warrant a video tutorial but I was scared to try it the first time so.... here you go, proof of how simple it is.

disclaimer: I put no effort into this video, there has been no editing done, it is no masterpiece and there are some parts where I actually screwed up. Also I was too lazy to smash them all together so there are 6 vids so you dont have to watch my konsole DL files.

video 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Dn-VjMCKW0
video 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_IB_7dD0h0
video 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_a4Ag-awaA
video 4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QiLE8kYAC5U
video 5 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naGXRet2jq8
video 6 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JobgQC98k8s

If you found this helpful let me know and i might make some others, and I might even edit them if your lucky.

Edit*** I just realized it might be easier to go to my channel instead of clicking all the links

Fantastic! Thank you so much.

If I may suggest, since this is a flurry of screenies, You may want to look into RecordMyDesktop. It provides a nice stable display, and allows you to record audio as well. :)

Hi!

Just had to watch it so I could drool (still building my hardware :()

Anyway, right at the end you say:
Quote810 is supported, 710 is not
Is that true?

I'm not being funny, I know that you guys aren't developing for 710, but is an Alpha version the only supported one?

Well, you will still get help from other users for 710, but there is no active work done by any devs on 710. So any and all updates will be for 810 only unless you do it yourself.

I work for a large software company and I guess the term "supported" means different things here and there :)

To me, it means bugs are still being tracked (and fixed?) but new features are not necessarily being developed.

A subtle distinction, but as we move to the mainstream (although not so main that visitors to my house don't go "Oh you have LinuxMCE as well" rather than "WOW"  :D) we are going to have to consider this.

Great Vids BTW - thanks for taking the time to shoot them.

Krys,

Thanks! I've been putting off installing 810 but I guess you forced me to give it a try this weekend.

Cool that was my goal, it really is super easy, and so far the only issues I have experienced with 810 came from non-nvidia video cards.

Means the same thing here, I just didn't phrase it as well as you, bugs for 710 are no longer being tracked or fixed.

Maybe this weekend I will find the time to use the desktop recording software Thom suggested and make a better vid for practice.
