Having Kubuntu boot splash graphics has bothered me for awhile, and i finally got bored enough to see about changing it.
I have been working with bdfoster on irc to come up with some ideas for this, and we have the following rough draft:

Please let us know what you think, good or bad!
In the end this will be all packaged up into a .deb and hopefully included in the release ver of 0810.
looks nice.
And it's good you are trying to change the boot splash...

Cool :)
Will this be for MDs as well as the core?
Cool :)
Looking forward to getting a LMCE splashy :)
brand identity..... couldn't hurt. not a big fan of the gradient, but otherwise, think it looks good.
With those colors, at least something matches the Fiire remote :)
Here are my thoughts, I like the simple splash screens. Plain background with just the progress bar, program name, and usually a small simple logo.
Examples.... i just threw together this logo, i know it has nothing to do with LMCE, its just a placeholder.

I do like the idea of having the version somewhere small and out of the way though.

Thom made a great looking one for the WebDTs, is there any reason not to be consistent across the core/MDs/orbiters?
Yeah, I just made this mockup:
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Image:Linuxmce-splashy-ss3.png
and was informed that it looks like the WebDT one. I dont own a WebDT (yet!) and so didn't even realize it had one.
Consistency is most definently a good thing.
This is another version, and I think most will like better, especially if you didn't like the shit brown gradient

This could even be the new wallpaper in KDE. ;D

Well whatever we decide to use we could use on all devices.
Might I add, this is would be a default splash. Because many of you I'm sure would like to change it to whatever you want, let me make it clear.
Change it if you want.
Is there any way to change the boot/splash screen on the web pads?
Just asking...

It is using Splashy and from memory I think it refers to the image file in the kernel boot options. So editing your grub.lst should do it I think.
