Title: Dell GX270 as media director?
Post by: heinola on May 24, 2009, 02:56:55 PM
It seems that this might work as a a ok media director
when a good agp nvidia card is installed.  They are slim,
gig of ram, dvd, onboard nic and dark in color
( like most a/v equipment these days )

I was wondering if any had these running for this purpose?

You can pick them up for around $100.00 US  and for $30.00 -
$40.00 more add in a good graphics card

Even that they a prone to psu failure from time to time  lol

Let me know if any had success with these..

Thank You

Some people are saying that the on-board graphics card doesn't work with Ubuntu (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1157307 (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1157307)).  Looks like you will have to add the graphics card you talked about.  looks good after that, especially when they are going for $89.99.  http://www.electrocomputerwarehouse.com/shopexd.asp?id=364 (http://www.electrocomputerwarehouse.com/shopexd.asp?id=364).  not sure how loud the PSU is?  the gigabit ethernet is nice

Even for the price after a decent nvidia GPU  the cost is low
