Title: Skype is about to go OS!
Post by: Che on May 22, 2009, 10:13:36 PM
Sons and daughters of the internet, I bear good news! Skype is soon to ditch it's proprietary nature and embrace FreeSWITCH, which means nothing to me, but to the developers out there should be going weak at the knees.
This will make the Telephony section of LMCE that much more brilliant.

Yea, this should be very interesting, although we'll have to see how modular this is for us to integrate. The article says the code is very "hefty".

Will this mean that skype can be used instead of asterisk? Skype is very user-friendly (i.e. my mother can use it) and asterisk I have no idea how to use.  If the telephony on LMCE would be easy it truly would be a brilliant day!

It would mean that skype can be used *with* asterisk. skype is an endpoint, asterisk is a pbx.
