I have two webdt's the correct specifications, ie ram and flash that were given to me without the wifi card or batteries. My question is, before i buy the missing hardware, am i right to assume that the downloadable orbiters on admin website can not be used on the webdt? If not how difficult would it be for a linux beginner to load thom's image onto the web pad without bricking it? :)

I can confirm that the downloadable Orbiter on the Web Admin site are not at all suitable for the WebDT366's....Thom has ported a debian based Linux and the orbiter as well... but I'll let him get back to you on the specifics of that and how easy it would be (I am sure you could manage it if you take your time ;-) )

All you have to do, is use a disk image utility to write the unpacked raw disk image (the .dd file), I use dd, to write it to the USB stick. 512 meg minimum.
shove the stick into the unit, turn it on, let it flash, when it's done, remove the stick, let it boot, enter network information, done.
You must configure your network exactly as required by LinuxMCE or it will not work.
