Their main number (1877onfiire) has not been going through in over a week and no one is responding to support tickets. Does anyone know what happened?

Yup, Fiire is no longer with us, and hasn't been for some time. While the Systems Integrator had been fulfilling orders until last week, Fiire's management left the building over a year ago.
Don't fret though, forces are at work to provide a replacement for the community. ;)

No, it doesn't.
The Fiire remotes were a custom production run by Gyration for Fiire. As Gyration no longer exists in its current form, and the current management shows no interest in the consumer sector, it is unlikely that these devices will ever be made again. Assuming they WOULD be interested, it would take someone paying for runs of 1000's of these units.

I can confirm that the MBO on these from Gyration would be 5,000 units... not a production run I can see anyone deciding to back right now ;-)

Seriously though, I am surprised they need to do such a big run. 500 or even 1000 might have been worth considering if the unit price wasn't too bad.

Did you get a price per unit on the 5,000?
I just contacted Gyration and was told they are no longer producing remotes of any kind. They are selling current inventory and that's it.
So, what's the next best option for gyroscopic remotes?
I'd rather say that "Acer hornet" would be a great piece of hardware when it comes out.
It has an nvidia ion MoBo on it capable of running 1080p, and seems to come with an airmouse/game controller (seems to be like somekind of wiimote like controller) connected to the system via an usb dongle (so you could attach the remote to other MD in your home.
If it is integrated somehow in the LMCE compatible hardware, it would be perfect for an "out of the box MD".

Well that assumes that everyone wants a Gyration remote... Hmmm... not sure they do ;-)
Gyration quoted 5K units as the MOQ... so that was the minimum.
Anyway its all academic now as Gyration have pulled all their Gyration consumer products and they are no longer in the business at all (see other posts in this thread).

Can you give us some more details?
Has anyone tried Nokia N95 as it has gyroscope and costs almost the same and has some nice features also like bluetooth and wifi :)
