What does karma signify by my name?  Why do I have 3 and why did it go from 0 to 5 to 3?

when someone clicks applaud you get +1 karma, when they click smite you get -1 karma

Can I turn them in with my Cocoa Puffs box tops and get cool toys?  hehe
