Title: VDR: how are you handeling timers on the MD's ?
Post by: Viking on February 28, 2009, 02:16:15 AM
Hi,

If I see it right then VDR timers created on the MD are not transferred to the Core. How do you handle that ?

remotetimers plugin ? Or is there another solution ?

My MD has got no recording equipment, everything (DVB-s and DVB-T) is going into the core.

Greetings
Viking

At the moment (0710), the recording would happen on the MD using the softdevice connected via the network to the core. There is currently no provision to use RemoteTimer to schedule the recording on the core.

For me, this is no big deal, as I already do ALL of my recordings using vdr-admin

Hi posde,

OK, vdradmin could be a solution, but has got a really low WAF ;)

I will look into remotetimers and epgsearch - maybe the last can do it to as it uses svdrp to programm timers.

Thanks

Well you can add vdradmin-am to the bookmarks in the Computing menu and then access vdradmin-am from the Orbiter...this improves the WAF immensely!!

Currently in LinuxMCE-0710 each MD manages its own timers locally if you set them from the MD's vdr OSD using your remote. We are working on making all timers run centrally on the Core for 0810 which will be a big improvement as it will mean that you can power off your MD's and have the recordings still happen centrally. Also it will allow for better management/usage of the DVB tuners in your Core. I expect we will have a version of this config in an early 0810 beta for everyone to try out (and improve upon too I hope ;-) )

All the best

Andrew
