Okay, -reloaded yesterday as I was having issues w/a nVidia card I added. At any rate, MCE was asking about adding devices etc. It asked about the linksys box which it's connected -I said no as I didn't fathom needing it. -I immediately regretted the decision.
Now it doesn't want to detect any devices -I've 'unlocked' the switch in the unknown devices form -still no dice.
...the strange part is, it doesn't detect the drive in which MCE is installed; /sda -it sees /sdb (which anyone who read my other post knows the rookie mistakes made there)
-any config files I can edit or am I reloading this?
Thanks in advance,
R Davis
Just an update; I opted for a reload -video drivers were no issue w/the help of some great documentation here.
-still not detecting windows shares. My config is as follows:
1) Nic, I have only one orbiter (my Vista laptop; using the windows pkg)
External IP 1.x
DHCP server is enabled w/in the admin pages (I didn't want to toy w/that)
Removed check for assigning leases to unidentified devices (as the core was assigning a lease to my wife's Ubuntu laptop)
Intenal IP is default 80.1
Internal DHCP scope is default
***btw(this config worked before)
I have reset the power the all switches in the house and even my PIX as I read people mentioned network issues as causes.
*** I have configured no network options other than desktop sharing via the desktop; I understand doing so is frowned upon
I'm at a loss here and would greatly appreciate any insight or advice.
Thanks in advance,
R Davis
One thing I remembered which was different from the 'working' system to now....
I added a user via the default (on screen setup) in the load that detected network shares
Due to ease of driver installation, I added the default user via the web interface. I have since deleted that user and added via the console.....still no luck.
-could anything be running in the background for the initial that I botched?
Consider this resolved; for kicks I disabled the DHCP (thanks to colinjones; I read where he was asking a user to check the dhcp_pnp log) -I saw where my devices were being handed a 80.x.
2nd, I set the internal ip same as external 1.x -I didn't remember doing this peviously -obviously, I did.
That worked! -dozens of Windows share locations came flooding in!
Now if I can just determine why it didn't the drive the OS is installed on....maybe b/c a 2nd drive was found for data???
At any rate (and I know several may scoff at what I've done) -hope this helps someone else.

eeeekkk! Don't even know where to begin... perhaps "Don't address a symptom, address the cause"?
