Title: Crappy video with PVR-150 & Crappier sound
Post by: sincityharley on November 07, 2008, 07:50:51 PM
I just bought the PVR-150. Video is coming through but its not very good or clear video. If I run the same cable into the TV it looks fine. Can anyone tell me if I missed some settings or what I might be able to do to get clearer video?

On another note sound seems to work ok while playing music but not so great when playing live TV. Any suggestions?

Cable signal is probably simply based on the quality of the card.  As for audio, there's a good chance that you need to change the sampling rate.  Do this in the mythtv setup.  It will be in the section where you select your tuner cards.  Try setting your sampling rate higher.

My cable tv via PVR-150 is pretty good, pretty much the same as TV although I haven't done testing swapping inputs back and forth.  However, I did change MythTV settings to the best quality recording (I forget the option names) and noticed a pretty significant improvement.  The defaults seem to lean more towards smaller file size than quality.

I use 2 pvr150 cards currently (MCE version) but I have never tried to capture from the coax/cable input. I have dish network receivers hooked to the AV Jacks, and my picture and sound are great. But to this end, I have played around with the sampling options and you can get an even better picture, and a smoother sound output, by playing a bit. Check this out:
