Title: Dell Powedge 2400

Hi,

I have just started with my linuxmce project i am planning on using a dell poweredge 2400 as the core. Has any1 had any experience with it or any advice to offer.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Personally, I would ditch it! The 2400 is ancient ... over 8 years old. You could use it as a dedicated core, no media functions but I don't know what the NIC support would be like. BTW, electrolytic capacitors are usually rated to 7 years before they break down, so if this machine has been used over that period, I wouldn't rely on it too much :)

cheers for the info, i was planning on having it as a dedicated core, locked away in a cuboard. the main reason i wanted to use it was cos all my linux mce machine will be diskless and as this has scsi i was going to get them to all boot from there. my house is wired with cat5 cable so was going to do a 100 mbps setup.

this'll take an age to install properly.you could wait 15 minutes for each orbiter to render

I'm talking from personal experience here.

we went down the router of "surely a core can be run on an old server" with this exact server and gave up

In theory it could work if you have patience
