Title: VDR for LMCE0710 available with liveTV at your MDs
Post by: niz23 on October 06, 2008, 09:03:36 PM
Hi all.

VDR for LinuxMCE 0710 is finally available.
Precompiled binaries for 32- and 64-bit is available below.
http://updates.linuxmce.org/addons/vdr-LMCE0710-10.tar.gz (http://updates.linuxmce.org/addons/vdr-LMCE0710-10.tar.gz)

Inside the tar.gz there is a readme file with the first draft of "how to install vdr on lmce0710".
Updated install instructions will be available shortly in our wiki at,
http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/VDR (http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/VDR)

Main focus for this version is liveTV functionality on your MDs.

Tests done so far indicate that it is stable but with some minor problems.
For example:

There is still a couple of things that need to be done before everything is fully integrated.

After installation.
Remember that you need to have exactly the same channels.conf file on all your machines (both core and MDs) otherwise you may get "channel not available" etc.

Please use this post to provide feedback of your experience with VDR on LMCE0710.

  • Stability
  • Better mapping of buttons for MCE remote. See VDR wiki page.

Tests done so far indicate that it is stable but with some minor problems.
For example:

  • Don´t press ESC when watching liveTV. You´ll get a black screen and need to restart VDR on your MD.
  • One tester have reported that after watching livetv he could not watch a video without a restart of his MD.

There is still a couple of things that need to be done before everything is fully integrated.

  • Better integration with LMCE UI.
  • Support for more remote controls.

After installation.
Remember that you need to have exactly the same channels.conf file on all your machines (both core and MDs) otherwise you may get "channel not available" etc.

Please use this post to provide feedback of your experience with VDR on LMCE0710.

Also see the MCE remote button mapping here http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/VDR#MCE_Remote_Functions (http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/VDR#MCE_Remote_Functions)

Nice work Niz :-)

Is working whit Free2Air channels, but how to get it work whit sasc-ng?
Have tried to add -D 1 to VDR start options, without luck. It locks the VDR on core, so i need to restart it before channels work again.
Someone?

Thnx for the new VDR

Okey, i think i know what i have made wrong now... (2 real dvb cards = 4 dvb cards = -D2 -D3 (means use dvb card 3 and 4) to VDR options....)

How about ttxtsubs plugin to vdr?

Have not tried that plugin.
I guess that plugin is shipped with ubuntu as standard. It might work. If not, you have to compile your own version of it.
Download the source and build it as you do with other vdr plugins.

Hi niz,

*please be gentle with me *

have installed as per instructions, vdr working on core  -1 where's the language setting ?

md showing same channels as core thro ui2, osd showing default channels, and  No Signal,

so ,                                                            - 2 where should channels .conf be on md ?

"Core.... in /etc/vdr/plugins/streamdev.conf........"       no file exists so -3 create new file ? or , should that have read streamdevhosts.conf,?  which did include that line.

Apologies for being so thick,
thanks in advance,
Ian

1. Select Setup (http://linuxtv.org/vdrwiki/index.php/VDR_User%27s_Manual#Parameters_in_the_Setup_menu) from the VDR menu to enter the setup menu. There is an option - Language, which defines the language used for OSD texts.

2. channels.conf should be in the same place as in the core - /etc/vdr/channels.conf

3. You should use streamdevhosts.conf.

I have tried to compile it before, but it was very slow when switching channels then. I have used that plugin when i made my own tv-htpc (debian) whit own compiled vdr +plugins and it worked perfect. I really need that plugin for subtitles here in Finland (europe!).

Well currently your best bet is to compile any plugins that you require like ttxtsubs yourself. The focus of the dev team currently is mainly on Orbiter UI integration and the back end.

The vdr sources used are 100% clean with no changes from the 1.6 stable release. So there is no reason for any plugin that is compatible (and stable) with vdr-1.6.x to not work.

All the best

Andrew

There is a vdr-dev package in the tar.gz. Install that and you should be able to build plugins unless your plugin need to patch the original vdr sources.
Hopefully I have some time this weekend to try and build other plugins for vdr.

mami.

If your plugin have all needed file to build a deb from it you should only need to install vdr-dev.
there is one problem I have discovered with plugins. If you build your own plugin without dev. Just copy libs and stuff to the correct places.
You will end up with a plugin that will not start.
The reason is that there is a check on the plugin file against ubuntu deb database when vdr startup.
It seem to be possible to set a configuration flag to override this check, but I have not succeded with that yet.
The only way I have been able to make it work is by modifying the plugin loader script. Dont remember the name now since Im not in fornt of my core right now.

Procedure to install a vdr plugin (deb based):
install vdr-dev
Unpack your plugin source somewhere.
cd into to unpack-folder.
Run dpkg-buildpackage
Install the debs you get after compile.

That should do it.

A few tips.

Are you MS MCE remote?
For me ch+/- vol+/- do not work on MCE remote.

Regarding your problem MD. Check that your channels.conf is identical on all machines (including your MDs).
There is a file name streamdevhosts.conf. What´s in it? (you need to have your subnet from your lmce internal network in there or 0.0.0.0/0)

Hi niz, andrew,
many thanks for response,
@andrew,
all same entries as per your post,

@niz,
yes it's phillips rc6 remote.

"Regarding your problem MD. Check that your channels.conf is identical on all machines (including your MDs)."

eerrrrmm   how exactly ?,i.e  file location for md ?   I assume  ssh  moonxx.....????
(I did upload  thro , web admin > cnfig> vdr setup  on both hybrid and core,)

contents of /etc/vdr/plugins/streamdevhosts.conf

#
# streamdevhosts  This file describes a number of host addresses that
#                 are allowed to connect to the streamdev server running
#                 with the Video Disk Recorder (VDR) on this system.
# Syntax:
#
# IP-Address[/Netmask]
#

127.0.0.1             # always accept localhost
#192.168.100.0/24     # any host on the local net
#204.152.189.113      # a specific host
0.0.0.0/0            # any host on any net (USE THIS WITH CARE!)

Also,
?? was I right in enabling  streaming live tv and recordings  in vdradmin?

thanks,
Ian

Edit  btw I've renewed the batteries    ;D

maybeonday.

This will be a short one.
Have to leave home soon. Driving my daughter to a party.

As I said all MDs need to have exactly the same channels.conf that you have on your core.

you can copy it to your md by ssh ing to your core.
Do, as root:
cp /var/lib/vdr/channels.conf /usr/pluto/diskless/<moon no>/var/lib/vdr/

Also on your MD.
Edit /var/lib/vdr/setup.conf (can also be done through VDR setup menu)
Add the following rows:
streamdev-client.RemoteIp = 192.168.80.1
streamdev-client.RemotePort = 2004
streamdev-client.StartClient = 1
streamdev-client.StreamFilters = 1
streamdev-client.SyncEPG = 1

If your core has any other IP than 192.168.80.1 change the line to the appropriate one.
RemoteIp = point ot where vdr on your md can fetch the livetv mpeg streams.

Reboot your md or restart vdr daemon.

niz23,

YOU ARE A STAR, ;D ;D
tv now working on md , thanks for the patience , and the work you and Andrew's team have put into this.
Any clues on the remote side of things?  (getting the channel list to display without the need for a keyboard would really make my system usable, )

many thanks,
Ian

Hmm... no in a word.

You could use a Windows ssh client to access your Hybrid/core or MD's though.

Hi all ,
am still stuck with certain remote buttons inoperative (see above) ....

have changed from mce  transceiver to usbuirt with no effect , (does seem faster tho),
so if no one else is experiencing  this  I'm gonna have to conclude it's my remote that's borked, and spend a few more pennies, any insight/ response appreciated,

regards,
Ian

Edit   If I "learned" the remote, could  I then add it under a different name using the process here       //wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/  Add_support_for_new_remote_controls

in order to check it out?

I´m investigating this behavior right now.
Will get back when I/we know more why this is the case with MCE remotes on lmce0710.

On my LinuxMCE setup, VDR works fine the first time I set it up.
But after a reboot it never works again...

I installed a clean core/hybrid, and installed drivers for my DVB-C card, dvb-utils and the VDR package from this thread.
I stopped VDR on the Core and scanned a channels.conf, and added it with the webbrowser.
After a VDR restart and a quick reload, TV works for FTA.

I then bootet my 2 diskless MD's and did the setup on them. I also  copied the channels.conf file to the MD's as described in this thread.

TV now works on 3 MD's, one on the Core/Hybrid and 2 diskless MD's. They can even watch 3 different channels (on the same transponder).

After a reboot TV does not work...

If I do a sudo /etc/init.d/vdr restart , I get a message "Restarting Linux Video Disk Recorder -= LMCE VERSION 0710-10 =- : vdr - seems not to be running"

If I do a sudo /etc/init.d/vdr restart , I get a message "Starting Linux Video Disk Recorder -= LMCE VERSION 0710-10 =- : vdr"

TV does not work, but I can scan for channels in a shell, so the dvb-c card should be running fine.
Anything else I can try?

cirion, restart VDR in one console and watch the log (/var/log/syslog) in another. You should see the actual error there.

Follow Michaels suggestion and watch syslog... my guess is that you may find that vdr is starting up and then failing to find the directory;

/home/public/data/VDRTV/video

The syslog reveals what you said Andrew...

Oct 20 22:27:07 dcerouter vdr: [26467] ERROR: can't access /home/public/data/VDRTV/video
Oct 20 22:27:07 dcerouter runvdr: stopping after fatal fail (vdr: can't access video directory /home/public/data/VDRTV/video)

But the folder is there, and I also tried a chmod 777. VDR still does not start.

Another thing, the syslog is filling up with new messages... In less than 2 days it has more than 8200 lines. Is this normal?

Check that you have a video.00 directory as below;

dianemo@dcerouter:/home/public/data/VDRTV$ ls -ln
total 4
lrwxrwxrwx  1   0 1002    8 2008-09-27 12:34 video -> video.00
drwxrwsr-x 71 333 1002 4096 2008-10-21 06:32 video.00
dianemo@dcerouter:/home/public/data/VDRTV$

The logs will get rotated and archived for you automatically so that they should not grow too large. You do have an e2fsck message in their though that means when you next reboot your Core will automatically check the integrity of your /home partition and repair any problems it finds. (this is automatically set so that every 30 reboots the system will check your /home partition's integrity).

There are some funny things with the vdr integration that still need to be solved.
In order to get ch+/- working remap "Up arrow" and "Down arrow" to ch+/-.
That´s the only way around that problem at the moment ath the moment.

We are looking into other ways to solve the issues we see with remote controls.

Hi All,

I finally got a chance to try this out and i ran into a small snag and i suspect it is a matter of changing something so that it works correctly.

I followed the wiki instructions for the initial setup of vdr and it gave me a working solution on my core like many others. However in trying to implement this across the md's as well i lost vdr on both the core and md's.

Basically i followed the instructions(niz) for setting it up on the core with the updted packages. I then went to restart the core with this command "/etc/init.d/vdr restart". I then went into linuxmce ui and tried to run live tv on the core only - it comes up with the no signal again. Not a problem i went through the instructions from the beginning and created a new channels.conf and tried to upload it. I got the msg to tell me that it had accepted my change. I did a reload of the router and went back into live tv again and i still get the no signal pic. I tried to change channels and it is in german. How do i change this ?

Please note, i have only done this on the core only i have not updated the md's yet? Can i only do it on the core first to make sure it is running - or do i need to do this on the md's as well before this will work ?

Regards

Justin

Hi justdeb,
I,m  no expert so fwiw, have you tried F6 and select a known working channel ? : I have the same behaviour, and i think the problem is not editing channels conf ,as,  vdr now seems to go back to beginning of file rather than retaining last channel watched,
As  your vdr is in german it seems as tho the update has taken  (change in vdr settings in osd--if you can find it....Ican't :(

@niz23..thanks for looking into remote issues,  am still having trouble with colour anddvd menu buttons...I'd be very gratefull to know if anyone else is having similar issues,

regards,
Ian

You can install it on your core first to test that everything is working.
When using it on several MDs, be sure chennels.conf is identical on all machines.

Cool - i thought it needed to be installed on all my machines b4 it would work.

It appears the system is picking up german templates only and i have copied the file into the correct directory and it still shows up in germain regardless of whether i use the admin website to do it or not.

Hi IAN, no it makes no difference on channel selection via f6 or via the fiire remote.

Niz - inrelation to your instructions. When we copy the new packages what files does it overwrite - ie does it overwrite the channels.conf and the reference/ini file(sorry not sure of the linux term) that vdr uses look for the channels.conf etc?

If I add the lines as follows to /var/lib/vdr/setup.conf then when I restart vdr it deletes them! Argghh!!!

streamdev-client.RemoteIp = 192.168.1.1
streamdev-client.RemotePort = 2004
streamdev-client.StartClient = 1
streamdev-client.StreamFilters = 1
streamdev-client.SyncEPG = 1

you can only change that config file whilst VDR isn't running otherwise it rewrites the config based on the db, etc. So stop vdr first, make the change, then start it again....

While you are in VDR (on core) you can hit "delete" button.
Then you are in the config menu.
Navigate to plugin|streamdev-server.
You can do all config in that menu too.

Its a bit hard to navigate inside the menu since "enter" mostly back out from a menu level.

I'm sorry to dig up this old thread, but I cant install this.
I get the following :
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  libxine1-xvdr: Depends: libxine1-pluto (>= 1.1.10) but 1.1.7-1ubuntu1 is installed
  libxineliboutput-sxfe: Depends: libxine1-pluto (>= 1.1.10) but 1.1.7-1ubuntu1 is installed
  xineliboutput-sxfe: Depends: libxine1-pluto (>= 1.1.10) but 1.1.7-1ubuntu1 is installed

Any Idea where I can get the libxine1-pluto 1.1.10 deb file from?

This problem is most of the times because you make changes when you have a running vdr process.
Verify that all vdr processes are stopped before you do any manual changes to setup.conf.

HI Niz23,

would it be possible to get the sources for the your packages *xineliboutput*.deb ? Could You mail them to me ? jabbaxxATgmail.com - just replace AT with @.

I would like to recompile them to test if I can get dshowserver and VDR running - see also http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=5767.msg48166#msg48166

Perhaps you want to look in the specific branch rather than the trunk?

http://trac.linuxmce.org/trac.cgi/browser/branches/LinuxMCE-0710/src/VDR

Hallo Colin,

Well that's all you really need. VDR itself is just vanilla VDR... download the sources from vdr.org

Hi Colin,

that was what I have read, but unfortunately it does not work for me. I loaded the sources from http://www.cadsoft.de/people/kls/vdr/ , then compiled them and replaced the vdr executable. Some parts worked, but I could not control VDR with the interface - changing channels was not possible.

Or did I miss someting here ?

Also IIRC there was no feature Settings/DVB/UseEarlySync in stock VDR (but I might be wrong there as I did not have time to read up on what happend with VDR the last 6 months).

you will probably need the help of possy, niz or totallymaxed then as they are the main ones that work on VDR
Title: SRM 5100 MCE remote not working

Hi all ,
am still stuck with certain remote buttons inoperative (see above) ....

have changed from mce  transceiver to usbuirt with no effect , (does seem faster tho),
so if no one else is experiencing  this  I'm gonna have to conclude it's my remote that's borked, and spend a few more pennies, any insight/ response appreciated,

regards,
Ian

Edit   If I "learned" the remote, could  I then add it under a different name using the process here       //wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/  Add_support_for_new_remote_controls

in order to check it out?

There are some funny things with the vdr integration that still need to be solved.
In order to get ch+/- working remap "Up arrow" and "Down arrow" to ch+/-.
That´s the only way around that problem at the moment ath the moment.

We are looking into other ways to solve the issues we see with remote controls.

/niz23

Did you solve the problems with the color keys not working in VDR ?

I am using an USB-UIRT and an Phillps SRM-5100 MCE remote (http://www.consumer.philips.com/consumer/en/gb/consumer/cc/_language_gb/_productid_SRM5100_10_GB_CONSUMER). The colour keys were not mapped at the beginning, but I solved that adding a new remote. But now I have exactly the same behaviur that maybeoneday has/had with his remote :( One more problem is that "Back" shows the linuxmce main menu and therefore it is not possible to move back in the VDR menu

Is there a solution to get color keys and Back working ?
I did not try the IR reciever that came with the remote yet because i did not want to use it.

Here is what happens :

Up/Down..OK
Vol up/down  ...no effect
Ch  up/down  ...no effect
Live Tv  OK
Mute  mutes and unmute sound/does toggle subtitles

red  no effect
green    ui2 menu bar plus osd
yellow      flashes light/vol  'rose'
blue   no effect
Text   does nothing and leaves error in /var/log/pluto/50_USB_UIRT_0038.log
Back  Shows the main LinuxMCE menu, second press removes it again
Stop  Stops VDR replay and stops LiveTV too - I am back in the screensaver :( should only stop VDR replay.

Hi,

I found a way of getting my remote working. The color keys using lirc and the rest using USB-UIRT. That gives the fastest response :)

But I am still searching for the VDR sources for the version LMCE0710-10 and if they are in the SVN, please show me where as I have been browsing it and not found anything else than the wrapper for VDR

I have tried compiling the original VDR sources myself and replacing them but it allways gives some kind of trouble.

Please help me :)

Greetings
