I'm trying to install pluto on a ASUS A7N8X Deluxe MB with a S-ATA HD connected to the Sil 3112A controller.
The install start but get stuck at 5% with the following message :
"Loading module 'sata_sil' for 'CMD Technology Inc Silicon Image Serial ATARaid Controller [ CMD/Sil 3112/3112A ]'..."
I've tried the "linux26 noapic" tips without much sucess.
Seems like Sarge has bad time with S-ATA controller.
Any help will be welcome.

Continuing investigation, I've tried to start with expert26 and at the "detect CDRom" step, I disabled 'sata_sil'. This allowed me to go a little further to the Load DEBconf step, but again, the install script got stuck while "Loading module 'sata_sil' ..."
I've found a lot of topics regarding linux 2.6 and Sil 3112A S-ATA controller. It seems there is known problem with this hardware and that some got fixed with version 2.6.12.
What version is Pluto 2.0.0.34 based on ?

After many trial, I'm definetly enable to install Pluto kickstart 2.0.0.34 on my S-ATA HD connected to SIL 3112A raid controller.
To go further :idea: I've downloaded the latest Debian Sarge autoboot DVD to give it a try on the same hardware.
Guess what... : It works :!:
This is "Debian Linux 3.1 r1 Sarge official i386 Bianary-1 (20051218)".
So the question rising is : what difference is there on the SIL module between Debian 3.1r1 and Pluto 2.0.0.34 :?:
Any help is still welcome.

Debian Sarge uses kernel 2.6.8 for both the installer and the system. Pluto uses Debian's 2.6.12 from testing for the installer and 2.6.13.2 for the system (I didn't succeed in applying kernel-wedge on our 2.6.13.2 and booting the CD with the result, and there's no 2.6.13 or later in Debian testing or unstable for the installer to port to our installer).

So Pluto use a more recent kernel then Sarge. I was expecting you announce an older one :?
Do you have an idea of any manual step I should take in the 2.0.0.34 install process to succeed ?

No easy way to bypass that comes to mind. You'd have to edit a package (a scsi-modules udeb) and the initrd and remove sata_sil from there, then remaster the CD and use only the IDE ports. :roll:
Ok, I'll put my SIL 3112 Raid to the museum and try with my other mobo that has both SIL 3114 and NForce 4 Raid. Hope I'll have more sucess.
I've already bought 5 Western Digital Caviar RE2 400Gb Serial ATA - WD4000YR hard disks to build the core, that would be a pitty if there was no way out regarding Raid S-ATA :!:
