Title: Getting Ir-Blaster to work
Post by: teddydov on June 10, 2008, 10:04:57 PM
Hi all,

I have been trying to get my Ir-blaster to work on 2 devices that I have both have failed miserably, and I have a feeling I am missing some simple yet crucial point here.

I have a JVC receiver that I have the sound connected to, all I really want is for it to change the volume (it's all I do with it today in any case.) I have tried using the codes offered by LMCE with no luck.

The other device is my cable Box. I live in Israel and the box I have at the moment is a Samsung. The remote looks very similar to the MCE remote, and I am guessing it's somewhat of a universal one - I would assume from this that it should be fairly easy to change it over to the MCE remote - but here also - no luck.

Am I missing something? Was there something I needed to install first?
I am using the Microsoft MCE remote and IR receiver (the Black one)

thanks,
-Dov

Unless I missed something, the last I heard about the MCE receivers were...

-they *will* receive just fine
-they *won't* transmit (IR Blasting) worth beans

That sucks, as I have 3 (actually, 4 if you include the spare) and although the remotes work fine for general stuff, I'm unable to switch channels on my dish receivers with them.

USB-UIRTS are a good alternative http://www.usbuirt.com/overview.htm (http://www.usbuirt.com/overview.htm)

There are others, like the GC100 and IRTrans.

I don't think you'll have any luck IR Blasting to external devices with that equipment.

If I'm wrong, perhaps somebody in the know can assist.
