Title: AGP / HDCP enabled card ???
Post by: deadonironsights on March 18, 2008, 12:29:05 AM
Is there anyone out there that knows of an AGP card that is:  1) HDCP enabled AND  2) works with linuxmce?

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated!

If you don't see one listed here; http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Category:Video (http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Category:Video)

Then, if it does exist, it hasn't been tested, or it hasn't been reported as working/not working by any users.

Thanks for the response, I hope that I or someone else can dig one up, because I don't want to spend money on a new mobo for my linuxmce box...

from what i understand, all my hardware needs to be hdcp compliant in order for me to play blu-ray. i just ordered a Lite-On Blu-Ray player (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?Sku=L12-1145) and i already have an hdcp compliant lcd display.  so the only thing im lacking is an agp hdcp compliant card...right?

The other item is HDCP-enabled video drivers and O/S. Linux is currently not HDCP compliant, nor are the Linux Nvidia drivers. Any Linux Solution (including this one) are work-arounds.  You don't need HDCP for Linux, but your compatibility options (discs that will play, etc) are currently limited vs. Windows.

so you're telling me that even though ATI puts out linux drivers for their HD 2600's, which are HDCP enabled, they still won't process Blu-Ray disks?

Exactly. As far as they are concerned anyone using Linux on a PC is a pirate and will push every movie they play out to the web as a torrent. This won't be overcome easily.
