Sorry, I feel like I missed something here. I was under the impression that the telephony system in LMCE was Asterisk. I have heard AMP mentioned which I assumed was a version of Asterisk, but also freepbx. That last bit I didn't really understand as it would seem to be (from the name alone) a duplication.... so I just assumed it was a plugin or something like that to Asterisk, but as I am not yet at the point were I can set up VoIP I didn't really think about it much...
But I just read something that seemed to suggest that Asterisk (or at least AMP if that is different) is no longer used from 0710b3 onwards and has been replaced with freepbx. Is this true? Or what is the difference?
Asterisk = the PBX server itself.
AMP = The Asterisk Management Portal, a front-end for managing Asterisk.
FreePBX = The new version of AMP.

Cool! Thanks!

Are you sure, Tom, that LMCE includes Astersk but not FreePBX? One friend of mine told me that FreePBX in LMCE misses some useful commands and utilities to troubleshooting call problems.
he didnt say it didnt include freepbx. he was saying thats the new version of amp that linuxmce is using now. it has both asterisk and freepbx.

Is there a way to switch between them? I mean to choose Asterisk instead of FreePBX.
grrrrrr
FREEPBX IS THE FRONT END FOR ASTERISK!

to reiterate Thom:
Asterisk = "Phone Server"
AMP = "Phone Server Configuration Tool V1.0"
FreePBX = "Phone Server Configuration Tool V2.0"
Clearly it makes no sense to replace Asterisk with FreePBX as you would end up with 2 management GUI's and no phone system :)
Sure, guys. Thanks a lot. It was just a small brain locking :)
