Good morning to everybody,
I am totally new to this world and totally unskilled, nevertheless I decided to move from Windows to Linux
and try to set everything up ...
What by now I don´t understand and know how to manage is the fact that the onboard lancards which did correctly work under Kubuntu 7.10 are after the LMCE installation deactivated.
It must be for sure some wrong choices I did while installing but how can I solve it ?
If I just try to activate them I get no result.
Can anyone help me with this ?
Btw, the orbiter start from KDE isn´t successful, I guess it depends on the network problem, am I right ?
Thanks
Hallo again,
I just add some info in the case anybody is willing to advise me ...
I tried to deactivate the lanboard and then activate it again in the mere hope that it would have been then recognized but, as I write here again, had no result.
While starting up I get an error while loading the samba daemon.
Do you think I would better reinstall anything or is there a simple solution for my case ?
Thank you
Can you please detail just what you installed and what choices you made during install?
If you installed Kubuntu 0710 you should be on the 0710 beta 3, am I correct?
If you did install (or try to) LMCE 0704 on top of Kubuntu 0710 you will certainly get into trouble.
Please give us some more information :)
I installed the Kubuntu 7.10 gutsy gibbon and then the LinuxMce 7.10 beta 3, both for AMD 64 architecture;
the mb I use is an Asus m2n-sli deluxe, don´t know if relevant.
the only choice I did was about the DHCP server, I chose not to install if I do remember well which the choice was.
Thank you for your courtesy
Could you copy/paste the output of the "sudo ifconfig -a" command in here, so we can have a look.

On the KDE "bar" there should be a "terminal" (quite easy to find), run that and input the command Zaerc mentioned. Also, cut'n'paste doesn't use the same key combinations that Windows uses, so if you are (as you claim) unfamiliar you can use the same "right click" then "copy".
Don't know if this was too detailed, but better than the other way (unless one is easily offended ;))
Thank you for the explanations, fortunately I'm much curious and finally find the way to do things , suggestions are always welcome !!!
Here is the result for the command sudo ifconfig -a
thanks for your help

well, there are no ip addresses assigned for one thing...
During the CD install, did you assign IP addresses for the external and internal interfaces? You can go into the webadmin on the local machine at localhost and go under advanced>network config and see what you have listed there and assign addresses accordingly.
I will do it right now, I just tried to assign ip adress from kde desktop .
have to stop the pc, change from windows to Linux and if it works I will answer from there.
Thank you

As far as I know, you will still have to go into the webadmin and change the network settings so they will be in the database. At the very least, you need to check there and see what it looks like.
unfortunately I cannot reach the admin website, to do that I need to start te mce and this doen't.
The launch manager opens and while starting the core services the pc spends the hours waiting and waiting ...
Is there any other way to reach the admin website ?
Hallo,
I re-installed Kubuntu and then linuxmce, because as I wrote I could not access to web admin.
My problems have gone worse !
So far Kubuntu 7,10 was installed everything was working fine, videoboard, lan.
After linuxmce (successful) installation I could only see on different and unreadable video settings the MCE launch manager which is unfortunately hanging on while loading the orbiter.
I tried to launch the video res wizard but after rebooting I couldn´t see anything more, even pressing the ALT+# I had no more graphic interface.
If anybody can hekp me letting my system work I would really appreciate it, otherwise I must go back to windows, that would really be a defeat for me !!!
Thank you
