Title: Backup Solution
Post by: samtaylor159 on January 30, 2008, 02:09:33 PM
Hi All,

After reading about Microsoft Home Server a few months ago, I was looking forward to playing with it but I read an article about LinuxMCE and decided to scrap the Microsoft idea and go with Linux. I have not installed it yet, basically I know Microsoft automatically backs up clients. Does LinuxMCE do this as well as media? How easy is it to set up?

Cheers,

Sam

There IS a backup solution that is bundled. However, I have not used it.

By "clients" do you mean the Media Directors around the house as opposed to the actual core server?

If so, with diskless boot Media Directors you don't back them up because their entire software/config is stored on the central Core server, they have no data locally, they boot over your network.

I haven't used the bundled backup software either for backing up the core...
