Title: SigmaTel stir4200 dongle
Post by: archived on October 28, 2005, 02:53:31 PM
Hi,

I would like to know which kind of infrared receiver driver I have to choose in "media director" wizard.

I've check driver on system logs and used ifconfig to check dongle. Everything seems ok:

irda0     Link encap:IrLAP  HWaddr 00:00:00:00
         UP RUNNING NOARP  MTU:2048  Metric:1
         RX packets:78 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
         TX packets:46 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
         collisions:0 txqueuelen:8
         RX bytes:990 (990.0 b)  TX bytes:326 (326.0 b)

I don't think the SigmaTel stir4200 dongle can receive remote control signals (RC4/RC5). It uses the irda-protocol to exchange data with a pda or mobile phone...or am I wrong?

effectively,

It runs well with my pda. So do you know what is the right one ?
I saw the IRTrans USB Module ou GC-100 and they seem to be well managed by pluto. Do you know if there are other devices ?

Regards,

Antoine

irtrans and tira are directly supported and work perfectly.  gc100 is only for sending--not receiving i/r codes.  a user 'john' as i recall also makes a u.s. product (usb-irt or similar) and said he's doing an interface (he posted about it in the forums).

any lirc-compatible one will also work, although we found the quality of recognition varies a lot which is why we built direct support for irtrans and tira.
