I have burned two diffrent dvds, one at 16x and the other at 8x, thinking it would make a diffrence.
Both times my install gets stuck at tar checkpoint 190000 saying,
cat: /cdrom/lmce-image/linux-mce.tar.gz_00: Input/Output error
gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data--format violated
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
From their is does nothing, just stays on that screen. Any ideas?
Try a different DVD drive
did you check the md5 on the iso?

Hi,
This is either caused by a faulty DVD disc or a faulty drive. The DVD iso works... we have numerous copies and all have worked 100% reliably. Reburn the DVD and try another optical drive.
Ok, so I just swapped out for a newer dvd drive. Lets hope this works.
EDIT: So, i just wanted to say that i swaped out the drives and so far so good. Any ideas why my other drive was doing that?
I get that same error when trying to use the dvd... I tried using another dvd - compaq sr dvd drive (Older) but it wouldnt recognize the media it was burned to - but then I used the one dvd burned in my other comp and installed it into the linux box and it started to install fine untill the error listed above..... Should I try burning the dvd at the lowest speed? the md5 checksum comes out fine... very strange..
I had the exact same problem, except my installation did it at Read check point 240000 (i think).
Anyway re burning the DVD at a slower speed seemed to fix it.
