Post by: rickyprose on November 21, 2007, 05:57:54 PM
Dear Friends,

What do you tink is the best miniITX board to install Linux MCE?

ASUS M2NPV-VM or M2N-VM
Abit AN-M2HD
ASRock ALiveNF7G-HDready
BIOSTAR GF7050-M2
GigaByte GA-M68SM-S2

Any improvement to use Nvidia 7050 instead of 7025?

Thanks for all your suggestions will be very appreciated!!!

My opinion and experience is that the wiki is a much better place for such things.

Dear Zaerc,

I understand what you means, but if i will put on wiki no one will reply to me, you see how many boards thare are on wiki?
Only 8 and only few they have comments...
I think for the peoples to find the wiki's page is not simple, I think we need to simplify to the peoples how to find the wiki pages...

Thanks

Ricky

Its pretty easy to find the correct page; http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Category:Mainboards

Zaerc point is that the best way to get at this kind of information is to use the resource that is the Wiki. Then if you find that one of the boards you are interested in is not there... then ask a specific question. But asking such open ended questions is not an efficient use of everyones time... we all end up answering the same question again and again ;-)

I added a MB today here; http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Gigabyte_GA-M61P-S3 by the way

Those mainboards in the wiki are all that we (let's say the "useful" members of this community) have experience with.  Sure people have tried other motherboards as well, but they can't seem to bother to share that experience with the rest of us.  Maybe some of them would like to answer your question, but I doubt it.

Thanks for bringing the count up to 9 totallymaxed.  I'm a bit surprised you had no trouble with SATA on that mainboard, then again I suspect it's also related to the amount of memory used (or maybe even the drives).  Anyway the support for the SB600 SATA controllers should be fixed by the newer kernel in the upcoming 0710 release for once and for all.

Hi Zaerc. The Gigabyte_GA-M61P-S3 seems fine with two SATA drives attached. We will 'load it up' with two more in the next few days and i will update the Wiki page if it causes any problems. I have also been testing it with 0710 today and it seems to run equally nicely. Hmmm... I think we have the Gigabyte_GA-M61P-S3 configured with 1Gb RAM at the moment (I'll check that in the morning though).

I plan to put some more MB's up on the Wiki by the weekend hopefully.

I agree, most people just don't know how to work with wiki and don't take the time to read the manual... The "find compatible hardware" issue is getting in the way for most people who wanna try linuxMCE or Linux in general. isn't there a kind of hardware review database for this? so you can look up your type of hardware and linux variant?
