Title: Walking The Fence -edit
Post by: day walker on November 15, 2007, 12:33:29 AM
I'm almost ready to dive in. before I start I was wondering...

Does any LCD TV with a RS232 port work? Any issues w/ USB to RS232 doggles?
What's a good HDTV tuner, hopefully PnP?

Before I go nuts and start hiding boxes and plastic bags from my wife does anything jump out that i need to think of? I'm planning on putting this on my main computer and also use it for computing. I'll need to backup everything, this is why I'm not just jumping in head first.

From what I've understood there are a lot of TVs that have a serial port that can only be used for by service personnel and not as a control port.

Is it hit or miss trying my Tv or only the documented supported TV's will work w/ serial.

day walker: for now, the TVs that are directly supported are the ones mentioned in the Setup Wizard... However, you can easily make new TV support in the Web Admin, as a GSD.

Hi,

as far as I know, LG lcd tvs are pretty well controlable over rs232. Don't have one yet, but will ....

You even have rs232 protocol specification in user manual....
