I have successfully installed a core-only system and gotten the network boot MD up and running. However, I have been unsuccessful in getting the USB-UIRT to work. In web admin I have set the MD to use a USB-UIRT. I have added my Hitachi Ultravision TV. At the point of testing all the pronto codes, the USB-UIRT doesn't respond at all. No IR blast, verified with IR camera. Pointing a remote control at the USB-UIRT and pressing a button causes the USB-UIRT led to flash, but nothing when pressing the Learn New Code in web admin. Am I missing a step?
Hi,
You will first need to tell your MD that it has an infrared receiver in the MediaDirector section of the web admin (select uirt) then quick reload rooter. from there select your remote control and check that this works first by looking at the content of /etc/lircd.conf which is generated by pluto. if this file has your remote data you should be up and running otherwise use irw to see if you get anything received through lirc.
Then you will need to create a child device under your receiver (in the tree view) choose the infrared transmitter device use the usb-uirt template.
it took me a while figuring out how this works with a lot of help from others.
There is a tread on this in the installation issues.
hope this helps,
Rafik
I already told MD htat I have the USB-UIRT. Is the /etc/iircd.conf file on the MD or the Core? Do I run irw on the MD?
BTW, thanks for the response.
all is where you plugged usb-uirt
the usb uirt has its own native driver, and does not use lirc.

So is there a utility other than irw to test the uirt?
sorry for the wrong input, i used usb-uirt with a homebrew serial transmitter using lirc sorry this does not applies.
So, no one knows how to set up a USB-UIRT? Hard to believe!
I didn't have the problem you have... I just plugged it in, went into the web admin, added my new device templates for my TV and Cable box, and on each, it started scanning the UIRT for remote codes, which I pressed the corresponding buttons on my remote.

Lucky you i'm living a nightmare with my homebrew transmitter.
Glad to see that it finnaly worked for you.
Enjoy,
