I think it would be cheaper and easier to buy the Sony VAIO VGP-XL1B3 (used in video) for between $100 and $200. I bought one last week from vanns for $100 shipped, but they are "Coming Soon" now  :-\. Do a search online and you should come up with one.

Interesting Device...
Is it possible to view the dvds in the sony on our mds? Do I have to connect it locally or could I use the dvds in the whole house?

i believe it can be run through out the whole house if its connected to the core. however only one disc may be used at one given time.
Please someone correct me if i am wrong since i  am a newb to this kinda stuff. i have a collection of over 300 movies and so many more gbs of episodes i think this device is tops for the job at hand...

Any device, connected to either the cores or to the media directors, will be replicated throughout the house. You use Manage Drives to get at any of these devices throughout the house. period.

Wow, that's sounds great. HDDs with space for all my DVDs would be much more expensive. Now I need only a shop that ships to germany  ;)

Or a German shop...
I calculated shipping price at the previously posted link...
208$ in shipping and 99$ for the actual product...
I don't think so...

Looks like all the shops listed in this article (http://www.pcworld.com/product/pricing/prtprdid,51712748-sortby,retailer/pricing.html) will send to Europe, but at a price (208$ to 222$).

Does anyone know of a good equivalent that we europeans can get hold of without having to pay twice the cost of the unit in shipping?  ???

tschak909

I also have 1 with 2 more on the way.
I am having a couple of issues wondering if you are seeing the same.

1. No sound when playing CD's stored in the unit from when playing from MD (remote shows the song progress). Playing them from Core/hybrid works fine.
2. Juke box disconnects and is not available untill its powered off and on.

Thanks

Tim

check to see if your motherboard has the audio connections are mounted correctly.   i had found that my usb dvd rom on my windows machine had that problem and once the wire were properly attached this solved it
hope this works for you to

I have no problem with sound when playing dvd's  or cd's that have been ripped to core or nas just cd's mounted in the jukebox.
Again the problem is only on media directors not the core/hybrid.

tschak909

Sorry to ask again but I want to clarify.
You have media directors as well as core, and don't have problems with either??

Thanks

Tim
