Hi all,
I'm trying to install linux mce on my PC without any luck. I've installed, and patched, Ubuntu 6.10. I've installed the MCE installer. When I run the installer I answer the first few questions then it tells me it's going to install, but the installation fails. Here's the output from /var/logs/mce-installer*:-

I just tried installing tonight and received the exact same error. Can anyone help us?

It seems that you've assigned an IP that is allready on your network. Please tell me your network configuration!
Check and see if you have the file /var/lib/dpkg/status.. If it does not exist, as root, type cp /var/lib/dpkg/status_old var/lib/dpkg/status
Then try apt-get update again...

I have the same problem, and i got the "status" file there.
Hi again,
I've just checked the 'status' file, it's there:-

I've just tried the install again without DHCP and picking a network address that I know isn't in use, still no luck. Output from ifconfig (let me know if there's a better command for getting network config):-

Thanks, Steve.
even if the status file is there, copy status-old to status. if it is not working, make a new folder on your desktop, and copy the contents (with the exception of the partial folder) of /var/lib/apt/lists into that folder. then type apt-get update again and see what happens.
