Hi,
I reloaded 12.04 20140416153928950 from scratch, got the networking sorted out with interface swap, PNP'd my NAS and then restarted AVWizard through main menu >Advanced>AVWizard setup.
System restarted and I received AVWizard Failed to setup X message.
On reboot I get terminal message (system frozen) [screen a little wonky - large font]
/etc/rc2.d/S99linuxmce (server) X server:backround; AlphaBlending:0 (yes that's backround - no typo)

No updates were applied. System is running on default nouveau drivers.
I am going to re-install, get networking up (no NAS) and install nvidia-current to see what's happening.
Results will be sometime tomorrow.
Cheers.
So,
I tried a lot of things...
installing nvidia current and doing xconfig and big mistake.
Tried just the current driver and renaming nouveau to nvidia and big mistake.
Tried changing nvidia back to nouveau, big mistake.
Tried nvidia site download driver, you got it, big mistake.
Tried rebooting (holding down shift) to get into AVWizaard, another mistake.
On this snap, even before/after updates, etc. the answer seems to be, "Don't mess with the nouveau" and don't try to re-run AVWizard.
Cheers
Oh,
For real fun I upgraded the kernel to 3.12.19 since we are normally at 3.2 something.
Tried the same stuff and - nope. Same old.
Cheers.
hi,
I found that if you do a dist-upgrade to the kernel that's waiting in the wings you will end up getting some occasional nouveau error message in the terminal window.
If you upgrade to something like 3.12.19 you get lots of messages.
Cheers.
The nouveau driver should not be loading, it should only load if your pci id is not recognized. What is the output of `lspci -nn | grep VGA`? And can you pastebin the output of `apt-cache policy nvidia-current`.
Thanks,
J.
Hi,

This is 12.04 current as I have been through many iterations since this post.
Original post May 07.
Oh,
Nouveau is only on Core system.
I have some other post out there where Core is nouveau and MD's are built with nvidia-304.
Cheers
