Hey,
I would like to take a next step with LinuxMCE, namely connection my heating boiler (Viessman) with my server.
I saw that Viessman has a model (http://www.viessmann.be/nl/industrie_bedrijven_overheid/Producten/Systeemtechniek/Datacommunicatie/Vitogate_200.html) to connect with EIB.
Do you guys think this will work with LinuxMCE? Or are there other solutions?
What do you want from LinuxMCE with regards to the boiler?
Whatever we can? ;)
I was thinking about changing temperature, reading the temperature...
And in later phase playing with temperature, closing windows...
It could be possible.

It should work quite well unless it has some other protocol not in the above technology.
I just can't see a reason, why I would need to control anything in our (Viessmann) heating system we have, from within the Orbiter, that's all. I come from the point of view, that a heating system is setup once, fine tuned, and left alone.
If you want to chart temperatures, you can utilized the KNX gate. I found Vitogate to be too expensive for what it can do. For example, you can't even set the outside temperature, iirc. Which is stupid, when you think about it. Lots of systems in the house need the outside temp. Why can't I write the outside temp via KNX into the Viessmann system?!

I agree with you. The prices i'm finding are about 700 euros, and this only to convert the signals?
But I must say that each time a look at eib hardware (fe the network convertor), i've got this feeling. ???
And you're correct that once you've setup the heating, it should be fine.
But i was thinking of let all things work together. Fe heating down, windows open, shutters down...
This way, I would first play a bit with windows/shutters/... to control the temperature. And if this isn't enough, the heating can kick in.
But I agree, the heating should be able to cope with it on his own. Nevertheless it would be great to have 1 control center for all...
To summarize the status:
* Any KNX device can be controlled/interrogated by LinuxMCE
* Not all KNX events/commands are currently implemented
* Adding heating events/commands like the ones for Vitogate can be done, but are, imho, really counterproductive.
EDIT: If anyone wants to have this, go and get the vitogate (or whatever you have), and if you provide SSH access to your installation, I am pretty sure, hari can whip some extensions up.
