Title: Integrated distro/install cd
Post by: axcairns on March 30, 2007, 05:31:47 AM
Hi,

Can't wait to try this out (have to wait until end of month to get the bandwidth). In the meantime, I have noticed a lot of comments on various forums about the complexity of the install.

One thought I had was an integrated install cd containing all the required distro and MCE files. The reconstructor project (http://reconstructor.aperantis.com/) provides a tool that can be used to craft custom derivatives of Ubuntu 6.10 with minimal effort. It has already been used to create Ubuntu Ultimate Edition (http://ubuntusoftware.info/Ubuntu_Ultimate_1.3/).

Using this kind of tool would allow you to distribute a single cd image which would handle all setup activities.

What do people think?

Allan

I like Live DVDs/CDs. I think that would be a great idea. A few things makes it hard for me to install linuxmce right now: I dont have any spare CD-Rs (yes, I'm lame not buying...) only DVD-Rs but the free machines I have are only CD-ROM equipped. I do have a Vaio laptop with Geforce Go graphics-card, but this has a HDD that is all full.

A live-DVD would have atleast allowed me to toy around with the system a bit. :)
