Title: Any good resources online to learn programming?

A search brings up loads of tutorials and resources to learn programming, my hope is that I can get to a point where I can contribute...

If anyone is aware of a good resource, please let me know, I wasn't sure if there was a specific direction I should go towards so that I could more quickly apply my efforts towards MCE specific items...

Practical C programming and Practical C++ programming from O'Reilly are a good start.

For GSD devices, the Pickaxe book for ruby can help (as can the tryruby.com tutorial).

I learned programming first on an Atari 800 computer in BASIC...
