Title: Motion and button based remote
Post by: lewism on March 16, 2011, 10:20:19 PM
I'm looking at using linuxmce as a solution for a media need. Thing is, the users would need to have both button based (press 1 for this, 2 for that) controls but it most definitely would be nice to have wii like controls such as that roving hand on the screen.

I searched and came across a lot of info on wii type remotes but haven't been able to confirm if there now is one which is well known to work. Can someone point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

Hi, have you checked out the gyration media centre remotes? www.gyration.com
These are plug n play with LMCE as far as I've found, and will do what you want regarding the wii type motion sensing, as well as the buttons. You can also program it to operate your other AV stuff too.

but why would you do the latter, when LMCE can do it far better? ;)

I do have an MCE based HP remote I bought for my mythtv project. However, in my application, it's for an older person and I want to find something where they can simply point and click, etc.

True, as long as you have the usbuirt, until I got mine from America I was using the gyration for TV, receiver, etc and it worked fine.

These are the best remotes I have found. I have a GYR3101US and it is great.

Thinking about it, wouldn't an iPhone + AirMouse be an option? It might need some tweaking, but it ought to be close to the Gyration mice.
