Hi,
I'm about to purchase new LCD TV for my new home. I already found A/V receiver with rs232 and public protocol (Marantz), now I'm after LCD TV.
I guess one part of story is whether device has rs232 connector and the other part of story - if it can be remotely controlled over it and if protocol is publicly available...
Anyone knows more about this ? I'm particularly interested in two-way protocols, where one could receive events from device if it is manually or IR-remote operated.
Thanks in advance,
regards,
Rob.
Hi,
most of Sharp-LCD-TVs do have a RS232 interface. But I do not know if it is a two-way-protocol.
Best regards
Carsten
Pluto supports following TVs as Plug-n-play:
* Gateway Plasma RS232 - http://www.alibaba.com/catalog/10826676/Gateway_50_inch_HD_Ready_Plasma_TV.html
* Pioneer Pro 1000HD - http://www.hometheatermag.com/plasmadisplays/139/
* Mitsubishi pd 5065 - http://reviews.cnet.com/Mitsubishi_PD_5065/4505-6482_7-31453447.html
* Runco cw50mc - http://www.hdtvsolutions.com/Runco-CinemaWall_CW-50mc.htm
I suspect that all of them should have RS232 interface.
Hi,
thanks for info... I'm seeking for this with certain reason. Palying with my Marantz (Audio receiver with two way rs232 communication) I discovered how important it is to fully support device's features and have two way communication.
For instance, if I go to Marantz and turn volume knob, I get volume status over rs232 - it's really important to know what is user doing manually on device. And same goes for LCD TV or Plasmas - if even not more important. AFAIK Pluto's support for those is pretty basic (changing channels,on/off), but all those devices have probably much more features. Also it is important to know if "rs232 protocol" is available, so one can add proper support.
For audio receivers I do know that Marantz's are pretty cheap and good. I'm looking something similar for LCD TVs.
Regards,
Rob.
FYI:
There is now a SharpTV.sh in the pnp_detection_scripts in the trunk of src.
Hopefully it will be in the next release as I have an LC45 that I am itching to see 1080i displayed in the next few weeks if I can finally buy the right nVidia card supported by pluto.
Sharp does send back an "OK " upon receipt of commands.

Can you query it for some certain parameters like for instance for recent volume level ?

Continuing Rob's original question, has anyone ever seen a spec / details of the RS232 interface on the Video7 range of LCD TV's. I've got one similar to this model;
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Video-Seven-LTV27C-WXGA-Resolution/dp/tech-data/B0009SXXES/ref=de_a_smtd/026-9436499-2113221
with an RS232 interface - the advert states the RS232 interface is for firmware updates, but I'm hoping that it can do a bit more than that? Searches on google just turn up endless adverts rather than anything more useful.
Thanks
Luke.
Hi,
I was also making some research and found out that mostly rs232 protocol is explained in manual. I found out that LGs have good support, also some sharp TVs, etc....
BENQ is also one example on the other side - it says in manuals that rs232 is used strictly for firmware and service...
HTH,

Rob.
