Hi all,
Been reading about LinuxMCE and thought I would try and give it a go to see how it works. Previously running mythbuntu and thought maybe will try linuxMCE.
Downloaded the LinuxMCE DVD.
Trying to install and I get a whole lot of 404 errors as per the attached.
Kubuntu seems to install, just when the mce-install.sh is clicked on it all runs really fast to the end and asks for a reboot which i've done and ended up in the tty terminal.
Internet is connected as I've reinstalled a few times and am connected through this at the moment.
Thanks Josh
Hi Josh,
0810 is end of live, look in this topic for solution
http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=10901.0
Thanks,
makes sense now that I think of it, will give it a go.
Josh
Okay it gets a further but still doesn't work.
It gets to:
Err http://old-releases.ubuntu.com intrepid-security/main mysql-slient-5.0 5.0.67-ubuntu6.1
404 not found
Same for the mysql-server
It then runs post-install.sh and then removes a hole lot of files from /etc/
Reboot then loads up into a terminal (is this like recovery mode) and I can't get back into kubuntu GUI.
1) Is the http for mysql also changed in the source.list and to what?
2) How can I get back in to the GUI
Thanks Josh
Hi
About a week ago I installed Snapshot 23359
Didn't edit the /etc/apt/sources.list but went tru all the other steps so I had a glimpse of LinuxMCE - pretty kool ;)
However I had a really tough time creating a Raid 5 using 1TB Samsung HDs
From webadmin always failed so I did it manually - I do have some experience with Linux ( only RedHat, and Fedora, never used Ubuntu b4)
After that had a problem booting the bios!!! ( GA-H55-USB3 mobo)
So I stared fresh
This time I did some reading and downloaded the latest Snapshot 23388 -
apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade went fine
The LinuxMCE installer script form the Desktop gave me kdesudo command not found
I edit the script changing to sudo instead of kdesudo
Installer did his job - maybe there were some errors(? Asterisk related) but t did finished and ask to reboot
The AVwizard didn't start, got the the Kubuntu GUI
So I went back to 23359
Edit /etc/apt/sources replacing us.archive and security with old-releases
...went tru all the steps up to reboot to get AVWizard
This time I got only the prompt - no GUi
Did startx but back to Kubunto GUI
No Avwizard
Every time I reinstalled form DVD I reformatted the main HD - 500 GB Samsung
So looks like in the last 7-10 days Since I start playing with this Something changed
Now I'll try to reinstall with editing /etc/apt/sources.list, basically no updates
let you know if that works
Thx
Any hints/tips etc will be appreciated
Update
Ok kind of worked - got The AVWizard back!
This time I kind of watched the LinuxMCE installer script output - obviously there were some 404 errors trying to get to us.archive.ubuntu.com so I assume that the installation is not complete...
I forgot to mention that b4 this i tried to do the internet Install
Installed Kubuntu 810 DVD from old-releases
Edit the source.list file but when doin apt-get dist-upgrade got a zillions of not found errors
+ lt did look like a lot of packages would be installed - a lot more then by installing Kubntu from the Snapshot DVD, so I stopped the whole thing -
hi kuky,
not sure what you've tried as I'm a bit confused.
you saying with 23359 you edited the sources list and didn't work or it did? Same with 23388?
After my install and editing the sources.list I get this error:
Err http://old-releases.ubuntu.com intrepid-security/main mysql-slient-5.0 5.0.67-ubuntu6.1
404 not found
Same for the mysql-server
It then runs post-install.sh and then removes a hole lot of files from /etc/
Thanks Josh
yep
NONE of the snapshots i tried worked IF you edit the /etc/apt/source.list
If you just install from DVD without getting the correct old.release "repository" ( that's the name I'm used to from RH ;) it s'd work ...however I assume installation not complete since the LinuxMCE script on your Desktop after 1st boot in Kubuntu is looking for some pkgs on archive
If you look at svn, there will be a new snapshot due, with correct sources.list
So I assume accourding to the svn that hopefully we should have a new one with correct sources.list in a few days.
I think I'll wait and give that a go then as I've spent a whole day reinstalling this a few times and was about to give up and go back to mythbuntu.
Thanks Josh
