In the last week ?
I noticed a Vl4 update and it uninstalled a ton of modules added new ones and rebuilt the kernel.
I let it happen, come back later when its finished and reboot.
But since then I have been doing the update/upgrade every other day and it sees, what appears to be the same vl4 update, and goes through the same procedure again.
It just did it a Third time.
???
Just did apt-get update and apt-get upgrade after removing references to mythtv in the preferences file. It wants to downgrade 70 packages.
I said no thanks. Is this what you're seeing?
Barney

No, I didn't do anything like that.
I'll try and do it again and copy some of the stuff.
OK - did the update and upgrade again and it runs through the same uninstall/re-install-build kernel yet again. I have deleted a bunch of extra, similar stuff to get to the meat. I hope it is useful.

Hey
Yes I have the same thing in my core.
I have just rebuild my system with the latest snapshot and it is like in a loop.
I have done it about 4 time now, update - reboot and look and it want to do it again.
Not sure why

Sounds like your
sources.list (or something related) is fubarred, that URL should be either ht
tp://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/intrepid/universe/binary-i386/Packages.gz or ht
tp://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/intrepid/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz.
/etc/apt/sources.list file:
change the the line that reads:
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ universe main non-free contrib
to:
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ intrepid universe main non-free contrib
The error will go away.
Fixed my sources.list as described by pw44... removed the references to mythtv in the /etc/apt/preferences file then did apt-get update and apt-get upgrade.
Loads of packages were downgraded.
I'm now seeing the same loop described in this thread.
Any fix yet?
Barney
Some may say not to do it, but i did apt-get dist-upgrade, and did not notice any problem.
You may try it, doing a backup first, if you have something to save.

I just did another update and upgrade and the issue didn't appear.
I always reboot following update & upgrade as i have had other issues in the past that didn't clear without a reboot.
Less problems all around.
I still get this though.
