Mp3's get damaged on samba share
« on: January 18, 2010, 08:06:17 pm »
Hi guys (and girls),

After running 8.10 after some time now, decided to move my music collection to a samba share which is connected to the system.
Doning so I decided to also check (MP3Diag) and organize (EasyTag) my mp3's in the process. After I moved the first albums I noticed a kind of a clicking sound in the music. When rechecking the mp3's with MP3Diag it showed that the mp3's were damaged. Having multiple streams, multiple tags etc. So I deleted the mp3's, rebooted the system, made sure the samba share was online and let the system settle down.

Moved a couple of albums to the hybrid which did not cause the same problem. Moved albums to the share again and ended up with the same problem. Anybody seen this behaviour before? Anything I can change/test/prove/list?

PS: System that is driving the samba share is a kubuntu 9.10 system

Here's some more data:

1) Before putting on samba share:

Code: [Select]

Ok, 2 steps further:

1) Build a brand new system (with a lot of help from Possy due to the myth avenard repo problems that have been fixed with the B2.5 installer)
2) Prepared one album with shiny new tags (MP3Diags only shows that the songs have not been normalized)
3) Put the folder with the files on the samba share
4) After about 10 minutes the files were scanned and again all mp3 tags went tits up :-(

As another test I removed the album on the share, and after sometime put it on the core. Turns out the core did not alter the mp3 tags out of a MP3 Diags perspective.

And the next steps:

Used tagtool to strip all tagging info. Then used MP3 Diags to add one mp3 tag (vs2.3) to each song. MP3 Diags shows only the "song not normalized" info . When putting it on the samba drive -> mp3 tags have been damaged again. MP3 Diag complaining about multiple stream, multiple vs 2.3 tags etc.

Nope,

as a measure I put my mp3 files directly on the core.
