Kylo Browser

I know that there is a push to replace Firefox as the browser for LinuxMCE. Has anyone looked in to http://www.kylo.tv/? I'm going to start checking it out. It is made by Hillcrest Labs http://www.hillcrestlabs.com/ who makes a gyroscopic mouse, the Loop pointer. I have two of the loops and the Kodak theatre (still trying to find a use for the Kodak device). The Loops are pretty cool and I suspect that it will work beautifully with LinuxMCE (once I get a MD working).

Edit: They don't (yet) have a linux version. I mentioned LMCE to one of the Kylo discussion board moderators. Maybe he'll check out this project.

There is work currently underway to replace firefox with a combo of qt and webkit.

Kylo reached out to me to ask if I would help beta test a linux version. It is billed as a browser for the big screen. I'm still new to LMCE but wouldn't there be some advantages in integrating this browser?

on the one hand after looking at it, i think yes.

on the other hand, it looks like its designed around a certain type of remote, which could present issues in creating orbiter remotes for it. that said, it does look cool and if i were a better coder i would give it a shot.

The layout is nice, the idea is applicable.  Remote compatibility would be an issue - if you can't control it with any orbiter, it's useless.  Maybe the people/person working on the replacement browser device could use this for ideas/improvements.

Is this free software, or...?  I didn't find any licensing agreements on the site anywhere... Just links to beta versions, and links to buy the goofy looking remote.

The main problem with integrating anything like this is its closed source and therefore however 'cool' it looks it is a no go as far as i can see. With WebKit we can build any type of browser capability we like and it totally open.
