Well after getting mythtv running....things don't seem to be going well. Mythtv works fine in kubuntu but not in lmce. Also I noticed that the kde desktop appears before lmce on startup. So it looks like I'll have to wait until this issue is cleared up before I spend anymore time on lmce.

on 0810 beta 1 mythtv was working fine. after new install to beta 2, mythtv i can not make it work like it should. another problem that bothers me is the lack of subtitle support. as reported in other posts, it worked on 0710. why does it not work with 0810? maybe i shall stop spending time until it's more mature...... i really like lmce, but withou subtitle support, it's getting hard.

I also had another problem....mythtv couldn't see my tuner card. So I decided to load kde from synaptic. Now my tuner card can be seen by mythtv. Also the sound on the desktop is working.

What package did you select to get tuner working?

ok, re-installed and kde does not work with ksmserver error, mythtv does not recognize the tuners, my nas device did get recognized but media is not showing up.

I'm basically looking at a blank media menu, nothing, zip.....

What can ik do, other than installing kde, since that takes over the whole computer to kde again.

I did two installs this past weekend and got the same result as rperre. I tried your solution and I installed kde. Has something been fixed or changed since you made you last post?

At this point the best way to get the KDE error resolved is to (per Possy on irc):

apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

After
Code:
sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
run the post-install.sh from the new-installer...tar.gz, and it resets the startup links and such, to load LinuxMCE before KDE

Mine, all fresh and new, is booting into LinuxMCE now, and awaits my starting KDE as it should...

As tested last night, the SAME procedure can be run upon MD's:
Code:
apt-get install kubuntu-desktop && /path/to/post-install.sh

I just finished a new install as well and got the ksmserver error. I talked to possy on #linuxmce and found out that the dvd install I had was beta 2 and I needed the snapshot dvd install. You can find it here and select the latest version:

http://linuxmce.iptp.org/snapshots/

As soon as it downloads I will try it (the download is very slow 100 - 125KBs)
