the renaming and/or symlinking is also strange one for me also, maybe we should open a trac ticket with feature request? Maybe nice devel guys fix that? I'm not sure if it is also maybe a bug? I'll see if Xine opens movie.srt subtitles, if it does than it is maybe a bug?

Also I had subtitles working but now they don't any more?!? Can't figure out why they stopped working. pw44 do you have subtitles now working ok?

Yes, i do have subtitles working. Verify your /etc/pluto/xine.conf. It was changed to defaults in one of the last updates, so i had to enable subtitle support again. And also check the /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf.
There are still problems on updates, which reinstall the default conf files, loosing your changes.

I heard, people are complaining about subtitles only being used when in a file.mediaextension.srt and not file.srt. Is there a trac ticket for this, or only talk in the forum?
