« on: January 09, 2010, 11:39:27 pm »
Greetings, i read a posts about panasonic and axis cameras, none in the wiki seem to be outdoor. Can somebody suggest one, panasonic or otherwise that would be pretty much plug-n-play? Thank u.

Axis, (Axis.com) introduced and is the largest IP camera supplier to the security industry.

http://www.axis.com/products/video/camera/outdoor/index.htm

Their site is extensive and detailed, plus they have many PDF files and you can ask them to send you documents and CD's.

Axis camera's run on Linux.

YMMV.

Axis cameras look good but they're expensive. I'm thinking to buy something from D-Link.

Thanks fellas, axis cameras do look good, but i agree they are expensive. I wanted at least 3 until i looked up the price, $1000 a piece, i didnt even bother to look at the more expensive ones lol. For 3000 i can feed 3 pitbulls and buy a rusty shotgun for A nightguard lol.

I bought mine used on ebay.

I paid $161 - $282 for various models, the 207, 210, m1011 at various times during 2009.

http://www.axis.com/products/video/camera/productguide.htm

Check the 3 PDF's at the top of the page if you want to print.

Don't get the 206 (discontinued I believe) unless you don't care about motion detection.  Most, if not all of the models have built-in motion detection which is a big plus.  It means your computer doesn't need to do the motion sensing which is processor intensive.

Basically use ebay and don't be desparate.  It took me several months to get everything I wanted.

ADD:  if its not listed in the currrent list, just use the axis search with the model number
