Backup config then upgrade to 810 and restore config?

Is it possible to:

1. Backup config on 0710
2. Wipe system and install 0810 beta
3. Restore the 0710 backup onto 0810

If not, is there any way to preserve configuration - i.e. scenarios, templates, room layout, AV routing etc?
