810 Beta MD5SUM or SHA1SUM - new users please read.
« on: October 17, 2009, 04:49:09 pm »
Hi,

On LinuxTracker site I saw the hash info...  0d65c38dfab03623b793052733080b3f4d41e008

So I thought we'd better get it out of the way for the new users.

First, Is this an md5sum or sha1sum value?

I'm making an assumption it is md5sum?

If so, FYI after you download the DVD it should be verified using a md5sum verification program.

If the numbers compare you have a good download.

When you burn an image from the .iso file you should do so at the slowest speed available on your DVD burner.

Cheers, enjoy!

IIRC the "info hash" is an SHA1 checksum of a part of the .torrent file (the "info" section).  It is used in client-tracker communication to identify the torrent uniquely and has little to do with the actual files described in the torrent file themselves, other then indirectly as the "info" section usually contains the file names and hashes for each part of each file.  Bittorrent clients use those hashes to make sure all the file-parts have been transferred properly.  So normally when the client says that the download is complete, it should be safe to assume that all the files are OK.

And burning the ISO at the lowest speed will probably be less important, as it doesn't contain a huge tarball like the previous releases did.

Just in case someone wants to double check the ISO image after download on a Windows machine:

MD5 Digest 'LinuxMCE-8.10-i386.iso"

ab942378ae93608d8d07441c3cffde46

P.S> I attached the tool in case you don't have it, after installing it on Windows platform, open file explorer and right click the ISO image then do the verification.

Thanks Zaerc (great job with 810 - honestly appreciated - bow from the waist) and ccoudsi for the iso verify info.

When I do the disk check I get a message stating that 152 files have errors.

The sha1sum value of the dvd and iso is edc1f2cdcf1d7cb06b326af498477f94690f4c48 so the DVD was written correctly.

The md5sum of the iso is ab942378ae93608d8d07441c3cffde46 which matches the value in ccoudsi's post.

Can I conclude that the ISO image on the torrent is corrupt?

I have the same issue as etNHGfU8. After using the disk for install, grub won't even totally load.

Is there another iso out there to download somewhere which is not corrupt?

After many hours trying to install 810 Beta 2 I decided to check the integrity of the DVD and I got "errors found in 152 files" - exactly the same as etNHGfU8 and baberlevi.
I know... I should have done the check first, but hey, who reads instructions?
I assume the problem is in the torrent iso so I am going to try installing kubuntu 810 and then doing the Internet install.

I have the same "errors found in 152 files". I downloaded dvd iso from svn, have tried with to different files: LinuxMCE-8.10-22982-i386.iso and LinuxMCE-8.10-23002-i386.iso The same result. So I think that is not a problem with curropted torrent file
