Hardware equipment for my project
« on: September 23, 2009, 11:08:36 am »
Hello, first i would to say sorry for the writing mistake because i am french.

I would like to be my own little home automation with linuxMCE. Of software point of view it's ok, but for hardware should i choose...

So i explain my project to you:

I am a PC where i want install an hybrid LMCE after my adsl box. I would like control my ligth by X10,KNX or other i don't know for the moment.
I would like this hybrid can control my TV, my hifi system and my dsl decoder by IR. I would like one or more relay for future use and i would like VOIP by wifi.
I want to connect a usb webcam to the hybrid and a ip webcam on the network. And the most importante for me that i would like a remote by person and not by room as orbiter with a complete web 2.0 experience and another with only up/down/right/left/ok/cancel/[0-9] buttons.

So if you could guide me to find good equipment to put in my pc and what i need to do this, i'am very grateful to you.

For the orbiter i have tink to a nokia n810 or a chumby but it's little expansive. If you are an idea it is welcome.

Another question :

I work a little with french compagny of home automation. And i would to know if i want to integrate LinuxMCE in product for future client and can i costumize it with the socity identities whitout problem of law, license ect ...?

Thank you for your attention.

Firstly welcome! Your English is much better than my French so no need to apologise :-)

Secondly your post is in the wrong section of the Forum. This section of the Forum is for member to post questions about the direction of LinuxMCE software development and to request new features or improvements. You will get more responses in the 'Users' section of the Forum. Having said that here are some quick responses to your questions;

If you want to build your own Hybrid Core then I would suggest searching the Wiki for examples of other peoples setups with similar specifications to the one you would like to build. LinuxMCE can do all of the things that you mention but you will need to learn how to configure it control the external devices like your TV, HiFi & DSL TV Decoder. After you have done some more research/learning on the Wiki then post some specific questions in the 'Users' forum.

To make a commercial product around LinuxMCE you will need to have a Pluto Commercial License as my company does or alternatively you could become a reseller or distributor of our Dianemo or Cascade products (these are based on LinuxMCE and we are licensed by Pluto). If you would like further information about my companies products and how o become a reseller/distributor please contact me via the private message feature of the Forum or via my companies web site (see my message footer for the URL).

All the best and welcome!

There are Wiki pages describing how to choose and configure X10, KNX-EIB & ZWave... do a search there.

All the best
