As most of you will know CHT Ltd has been shipping a Home Automation system called Dianemo that is based on LinuxMCE since May 2008. We market Dianemo into the custom installer market worldwide. But now with the release of Dianemo S with many enhancements and improvements we have the perfect system for forum member who just want a working system without all the fuss & low WAF!. Dianemo uses CHT's repositories (not the repositories used by LinuxMCE) and we release updates numerous times per month and now we also closely track Ubuntu releases so that you can always build your Dianemo system with the latest software technologies from Canonical. Dianemo Updates contain either multiple feature enhancements or bug fixes or a mix of the two and are automatically available to Dianemo installations worldwide (we provide an updater script that automatically detects & installs updates for you). Over the last 12 months we have delivered 200 Updates to our customers - Dianemo is in active development. Even better - after you purchase a Dianemo license all future updates are free of charge.
A Dianemo S License only has one restriction - your license is only valid for a single NerveCentre at any given time (you are free to move the license to another piece of hardware at any time though - please contact us before you do so though). There are no other restrictions - you can have as many devices attached to your Dianemo S Nervecentre (NC) as you like and as many Media Managers (MM's), squeezeboes, Squeezeslaves, Nas's etc as you need. Once you have purchased a license from us ALL support (via the LinuxMCE forum) & updates are free - just run our updater script to get the latest updates automatically installed. Whenever Canonical release an updated version of Ubuntu we typically release support for that new OS version inside 4-6 weeks (sometimes sooner) and you can update your existing installation simply and easily - no re-install is required. And as long as your hardware is supported by a Ubuntu OS release your Dianemo S system will upgrade.
Dianemo is currently installable on Ubuntu 11.10 and on Ubuntu 12.04LTS. Existing customers with 11.10 (or earlier customers with Ubuntu 10.10 based systems) can upgrade their systems to 12.04 without re-installing from scratch. See our Dianemo S wiki page for details; http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Dianemo_S**NEW** Dianemo Configuration Services

We have released an update to the Dianemo Orbiter for iOS devices. Version 1.5 incorporates big improvements in responsiveness and performance making interacting with the UI much more fluid, integrates the Kmotion IP CCTV and MythWeb into the Orbiter in a WebKit views that are accessible from new buttons in the Icon bar, display dynamic UI elements - the videos below demonstrates scrolling datagrids working in the Audio & video Media Browser. The Orbiter automatically detects screens with datagrids and displays those parts of the screen as dynamic scrollable views that support all the standard iOS touch based UI conventions. One of the cool new features of this new interactive capability is that it will work with your existing UI skins right away. Version 1.5 is awaiting approval by Apple now and should appear as an update on or around the 16 Jan.
The videos below are of v1.4. The first video below was shot in Apple's xCode Dev systems device simulator while the others are running on real iOS devices. Enjoy...!

Ever since we shipped the first Dianemo 07.10 Systems in early 2008 we have been asked literally 1000's of times by LinuxMCE Forum members about whether we could provide a Dianemo software only solution to install on their existing hardware. We always had to say 'no' to that question in the past. Well at last we are now able to offer a Dianemo Software only product to the LinuxMCE community!
Dianemo S is a paid for software license that enables you to have a Dianemo installation on almost any LinuxMCE compatible Core hardware that you already own (if your hardware runs the Ubuntu release you want to install ie Ubuntu 11.10 or Ubuntu 12.04LTS currently then it will be compatible with Dianemo S). Dianemo S is supported via the LinuxMCE forum to keep its cost to a minimum. We cannot guarantee that all hardware will work with Dianemo S so there will be some restrictions as to which hardware you can install it on. One key restriction is that both for Hybrid NerveCentre's and Media Managers we will only be supporting nVidia and Intel GPU's. Each installation has a Dianemo installation ID and is upgradable to future releases using a disc-less online update/upgrade procedure. Updates will be released as and when we develop them and will be available at the same time as they are made available to our hardware products and Ubuntu OS upgrades will follow shortly after Canonical releases a new Ubuntu OS release. Updates and upgrades are free to all licensed users. How do I Install Dianemo S?
See this wiki page for details; http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/Dianemo_S
- its very easy and straightforward to install and importantly equally easy to keep updated. We provide an updater script that you can run as often as you like that will always get the latest updates for Ubuntu and Dianemo automatically for you.
If you are interested in a Dianemo S software only installation license package and would like more information please contact totallymaxed via PM here in the forum (Include basic information about your hardware please). All our systems now ship with support for the the UPnP AV standard and support for adding Western Digital WD TV Live HD Media players (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=330
) and Sonos Zone Players (http://www.sonos.com/Default.aspx?rdr=true&LangType=2057
) to your system. This means you can add WD TV Live media players, with their support for 1080P hardware acceleration, wherever you want video/audio in your system and use any Orbiter or Touch Orbiter to control them. The same goes for Sonos Zone Players for audio streaming. Dianemo's new UPnP AV software means that the WD's & Sonos's can be controlled entirely by UPnP over IP...no need to use IR blasting. Use our new UPnP Radar page in Web Admin to find any UPnP compliant devices on your LAN, tick the box next to the device you'd like to add and your all set. If you have a UPnP-AV compliant NAS just tick the box to add it and have its media available. Then just add a WD to a room or entertainment area and stream audio or video stored in your media library, including MythTV SD & HD recordings to it from your Orbiters - even use iPod Touch's, iPhone's or iPad's with our free iOS app as Orbiters. The WD's essentially become light-weight MD's...they just dont run the Orbiter UI or have any rs232 or other ports that can be controlled or accessed by the system.Sony DLNA/UPnP TV's & Samsung Smart TV's now supported in Dianemo S
Preliminary support in Dianemo S for media streaming & control using UPnP AV for Sony TV's such as the kdl-32w5810 http://www.sony.co.uk/product/t32-w-series/kdl-32w5810
. This means you do not need to add a separate MD or UPnP AV Media Player to your Sony TV - your Sony TV is the UPnP media player...and your Dianemo Orbiters can control the video & audio streams sent to it just as they would with a separate Media Player. Just hang one of these TV's on the wall & hook up power and a CAT5 cable from your LAN and thats it - it does not get much simpler.
We will be announcing support many more UPnP AV devices like the WD's, BluRay Players, TV's, Audio Amplifiers & and any compliant UPnP device too. We also support for BluRay rip streaming to UPnP AV players such as the WD.IP Control of Sony & Samsung Smart TV's
We now support IP control of Sony & Samsung Smart TV's. Please contact us for details of which models are supported.
All of our NerveCentre's are ready to go and include our standard 12 month 'return to base' warranty & after sales support and come complete with our new Dianemo S release installed. All system prices exclude shipping (No VAT charged for orders shipped outside EEC) - please use the international shipping charge tables below to calculate your total system costs inclusive of shipping and VAT (Note - VAT only applies if you are located in the EU).

We have now started to ship new systems with Dianemo S installed. Dianemo S supports Ubuntu 11.10 and now Ubuntu 12.04LTS. First shipments of the 11.10 release started at the end of Jan 2011 and 12.04 in early June 2011. Dianemo S is a major step forward in all areas with the underlying OS technologies bringing a wealth of new capabilities and making possible to access much more modern hardware. This translates into new hardware capabilities and support for new and more advanced peripherals and subsystems. The new OS also allows us to deliver a wide range of new application features and capabilities such as UPnP & shortly BluRay support. What about upgrades to Dianemo?
Dianemo S will receive updates automatically as and when they are released by CHT. Dianemo S, which is based on Ubuntu 11.10, will be available in Jan 2012 and all Dianemo 10.10 systems will receive an upgrade to the 11.10 release when it is available. Our Ubuntu 12.04LTS release will be available shortly after Canonical release Ubuntu 12.04LTS and all 10.10/11.10 systems will be upgradable. What about ARM?
As part of the transition to Dianemo S we have rebuilt from the ground up our build system and this will make it possible to transition to new Ubuntu OS releases much more quickly than in the past and will also allow us to introduce Dianemo systems on ARM based hardware in the near future...this is a strong candidate as our first target by the way; http://www.raspberrypi.org/wiki-2
. Let us know if you'd be interested in our ARM based products. Look out for announcements about these developments shortly.
This great Youtube video clip kindly created by Forum member & Dianemo customer, mardibloke, shows Dianemo/Cascade in action - demonstrating the Nokia N810 Orbiter being used to control ZWave lighting, TV, DVD's, MP3's and security cameras; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMo5hBjEihY
Take a look at the Dianemo Web site here; http://www.cascade-media.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=26&Itemid=21
. You can download datasheets about all the Cascade NerveCentre's, Media Managers and other related products. If you have any specific requirements then we can build NerveCentres/Cores to order based on our standard hardware - contact me if you'd like more info on this.
We will also now ship systems worldwide including North America by the way.
Some LinuxMCE to Dianemo definitions for you...;
- Core = We call these NerveCentre's or NC's.
- Media Director or MD = We call these Media Managers or MM's.
All Dianemo NerveCentre's are delivered fully tested and with all the basic configuration completed - removing one of the biggest challenges faced by people trying to build their own systems. You can then build your system around your NerveCentre, adding Media Managers is easy and straightforward and is truly plug-n-play, removing the other major challenge that people building their own systems face, and you can use pre-built 'off the shelf' units like the Revo or build something custom that suits your needs (see the list of supported hardware below). What we mean by 'supported' is that if you 'build' an MM that meets our spec then it will be plug-n-play and if you hit any problems we will be there to assist you.
So how does Dianemo compare to LinuxMCE? Cascade contains all the features of LinuxMCE plus enhancements such as;
- Pre-installed and configured NerveCentre (we call Core's NerveCentre's by the way).
- Plug-n-play Media Manager installation (we call MD's Media Managers or MM's) supporting a range of ATOM/Ion and other hardware out of the box.
- Plug-n-play support for Eee Top 1602 Touch screen Media Managers.
- Plug-n-play support for Eee Top ET2002T Touch screen Media Managers.
- Integrated MythTV-0.25-fixes at the NerveCentre.
- Support for a wide range of TV/Capture cards (eg HVR-1300, HVR-2200, HVR2250 & many more)
- Integrated support for controlling external Sky boxes and distributing the video output of the Sky Box over HDMI or RF to multiple rooms or zones. Other external Sat boxes can be added in a similar way.
- Integrated support for HDMI Audio on nVidia based Media Managers (supports Stereo & 5.1/DTS modes) & enhanced AVwizard for configuration.
- Integrated support for Squeezebox Receiver, BoomBox & Classic & SqueezeBox Server Version: 7.4.2 - r30215 (supports in synch multizone audio playback)
- Integrated support for Squeezeslave - this is a soft Squeezebox. Create as many as you have sound cards for...supports USB/PCI audio cards, add them to MM's & your NC. Add 2,3,4 or more Audio zones by attaching low cost USB audio adapters to your MM's (tested with 6 x USB Audio cards & ripped DVD streaming from NC on a single Asus Revo)
- Integrated Secure Remote Assistance if activated by customer.
- Many other changes/improvements
Supported Media Managers (ie Media Directors) are the following pre-built models or are based on the hardware listed. You are free to buy these from any vendor you choose (you DO NOT

Any hardware you buy from us will be supported by us through the LinuxMCE forum and through Secure Remote Assistance for a period of 12 months and is covered under a 'return to base' warranty for any hardware faults for 12 months too. If you purchase your own hardware to add to your Cascade NerveCentre, and it is on our supported list, then we will provide general assistance through the Forums to assist you.
