Skin Development: Onyx
« on: August 27, 2009, 01:27:05 am »
Hello all,

I have sketched up an aesthetic test for a skin that I will be working on after the 0810 release, a dark skin, appropriately titled, Onyx, shiny black base, with crisp lines.

This one will take a lot more time, due to the fact that each button needs to have a language-skin-designobj override in Designer to do the proper text alignment and kerning. A font will also be required.

the following is a quick (throw some stuff onto a canvas) test:

What do you all think?

Honestly, I thought the titanium was a bit meh.  Better than the original, but just marginally.

The mini-preview of Onyx looks great, a huge improvement!

Looks good :)

Mind you, I'm waiting for the Star Trek skin, although that's mostly to impress a geeky friend. Once they've seen it, Onyx looks cool.

I'm a bit of an old fart, but have noticed my teenege kids using the term
meh.
please translate into something approximating English!

Nice stuff I like it. Personally I much prefer the slick look of the black interface. Looks more professional somehow.

wierdbeard65 - "meh" pretty much equals indifference, or unimpressed ;)

Looks good so far, can hardly wait to see what it looks like when it is done.

Only one or two screens left for both UI 1 and two. I have to do some new buttons still for UI 2. So Close... I think I need a good 2 or 3 hours to finish. Was hoping to have it done by tomorrow but it may be a few days more.
Core: Broken :(

Unimpressed may sound a bit insulting, it wasn't meant to be.  Indifference is more accurate.  It was a slight improvement over the original version, just fairly similar and nothing to get excited about.  Onyx IMHO will be a noticeable visual improvement.  Looks like it's going to be very slick and give the UI a whole new feel, not just a slight color change.

Sorry Thom was not my intention, I really have shown our skin because I thought we could work together to create a better look at ui1

Have split out those posts into a new topic to keep this tidy.
