WinTV-HVR 1600
« on: August 01, 2009, 10:11:10 pm »
Hello,

I am starting a fresh install of 8.10 latest alpha. Today I impulsed a purchase of the WinTV-HVR 1600 with Remote and came home and read the forum posts. I have not removed from the shrink wrap yet and, after reading here and the MYTH forum, I am not inclined to try to install this card.

I thought I would ask if anyone has had success creating a Device Template and gotten the card and remote fully functional in 8.10. I want to stay inside the LMCE world and not try to bend something that kinda sorta works.

Please comment.

Thanks...David

Well it looks like the HVR-1600 should be ok under 8.10... I dont htink LinuxMCE will autodetect it but the 8.10 kernel & MythTV should configure it fine as far as i can see. See this page for more info http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-1600.

All the best

Thanks for the reply. I am comfortable getting the card seen and functioning in Ubuntu 810. I guess I'm still wondering if there is a device template and anyone successfully deploying this card in the latest Alpha build of LinuxMCE. If you think there is a reasonable shot at getting the card and remote setup in MCE 810, I don't mind taking the pain and trying to develop a Device Template for this card and remote...

Thanks...David

Hi again,

Check with dlewis by pm to see whether the HVR-1600 is on his list of TV cards for Linux fund development support and therefore LinusMCE template development effort.

But even if there is no LinuxMCE template you can configure the card directly in MythTV. See this Myth Wiki page for very clear details of what to do; http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Hauppauge_HVR-1600. It may well be that with the 08.10 kernel you will not have to install any drivers at all... but if you need to the steps described at the bottom of the Wiki page are very simple to follow. Also I noticed that according to the Wiki page on the hvr-1600 that there appears to be at least two variants of this card - each has slightly different features/capabilities (you probably should figure out which variant you have and then decide if its the right one for you)

All the best
