Mythtv frontend won't load
« on: July 11, 2009, 09:49:37 pm »
I'm using 810 and when I try to watch some tv through linuxmce the frontend for linuxmce doesn't load and it goes into the mythtv gant menu. After about half a minute after it reaches the gant menu it will flash a screen saying that mythtv is having problems and goes back to the flickr slideshow.

The contents of spawn_mythfrontend_23861.log are below and give some clue, but I'm having a hard time trying to figure this out.

Code: [Select]

I couldn't find liblibmythfrontend.so anywhere on my computer. Mythtv works just fine from KDE though. Maybe it's an installation issue? This is the second install that I've done with the same results.

I did some more digging and looking into mce-installer-20090708_231420.log I found some errors, but I'm not sure if they're relevant to my problem. The lines from the mce-installer.log containing errors are listed below.

There is an error in the mythtv backend setup. It looks like the database schema wasn't created properly

No, the problem only presents on my core/hybrid. I'm able to watch tv using MD's, but I want to be able to use the core/hybrid, so I'm still looking for a fix. I have seen some posts where they change settings in fixmythtvsettings.sh, but this didn't work for me.

Hi

So are you MD with vdpau and that work fine?
To me it looks like on my core/hybrit it still trying to load the old mythfrontend end.
Have you tried to run mythfrontend in kde and see if it works?

I don't know what vdpau is, I just hook up a MD and it works for any MD I've tried so far (an old shuttle and my inspiron 1525). I tried running mythfrontend in kde a while ago. I think it had some problems, but I can't remember. I'm going to check tomorrow after I finish another reinstall. I'm reinstalling because I was trying to get hdmi audio working and updating the video driver messed something up and I find it easier to do a fresh install.

Ok, so I finished reinstalling and it works. On the first boot up I pressed the TV button and it went to the GANT menu again so I let it sit. Then it flickered a couple times and the screen saying that there's problems with myth asking if I want to reset the backend came up and didn't just go away, it stayed. This was new so I pressed yes and closed out of the GANT menu. I pressed the TV button again and like magic it works. I don't have my tuner hooked up to any cable or antenna yet so all I see is static, but it's working.

The only thing that I noticed that was different was that it looked like the IVTV drivers actually got installed this time, usually I saw something about the drivers not being found, but this time it looked like they got installed.

Hi,
the lines like this :

Code: [Select]
MythPlugin::init() dlerror: /usr/lib/mythtv/plugins/liblibmythfrontend.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
only comes when I start MythTV on the MD using the Orbiter. If you start it in KDE in a terminal with "mythfrontend" there is no such error - so there must be an error somewhere in the Spawn script.

Greetings
Viking

You say you haven't hooked up a cable yet so have you configured Myth as per the wiki. TV wont work until the cards have been defined.

Without hooking up a cable to the tuner card myth will still show static. Also this issue mysteriously solved itself for me.

Updating to alpha 2.27 has killed myth again.  Now when I try to watch tv nothing happens for a minute or two and then a blue screen pops up saying, "I cannot play this media. Perhaps there is not a valid device in this entertainment area capable of playing it. Jukebox is not available"  Any ideas what's going wrong?

there was a bug that crept in at the last minute for the build, it has been resolved. Wait a few hours, and a new package will appear for the media plugin.

I was finally able to determine the initial source of the issue. It's basically a driver issue. After I have updated to the latest nvidia drivers (manually) things start to work like they should. I'm kind of kicking myself for not reading more into supported motherboards before digging in, but some of the deals on new egg are just so tempting. Just for reference I'm using a ECS GF8200A black edition motherboard.
