How can I access my samba shares on the internal linuxmce network remotely?  I have to travel and access my files on my file server, which I have placed on the internal linuxmce network, with my company laptop from hotels and client locations.  My company laptop is an xp pro machine and I use the windows synch function to true up files changed while disconnected from the network.  My laptop in in the company domain, separate from the work group on my home linuxmce network.

First thing that comes to mind is a ssh port tunnel.
You'd need to open up the port 22 on your core firewall and your home router/modem.

a quick google came up with http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2004-May/085358.html
and http://www.ibiblio.org/gferg/ldp/Samba-with-SSH/Samba-with-SSH.html
both which would be a good starting point

I would recommend installing open vpn (http://openvpn.net/) on your core.  this will allow you to connect remotley via a secure tunnel, as though you were plugged into your internal network. I don't know if there are any issues, but it should run on kubuntu, so it is prob ok on lmce.

search the forum for openvpn... One of the users created a script to fully implement OpenVPN.

What if segregated LinuxMCE on it's own internal network inside your home LAN.  Can you open up the core firewall so that a Windows machine can browse or map to the samba shares?
